rear sprocket play

Hi there
Yesterday i was washing my bike and i've noticed something rather confusing.
I was cleaning the chain, and discovered that the rear chain sprocket is playing a bit in the axial direction.
Is that normal? Or is it a broken bearing?

Its play in the cush drive rubbers - quite normal

Pull the wheel out, and lift out the sprocket carrier and have a look at the rubbers.
When new, ht esprocket carrier is a push fit into the rubbers, but as the rubbers wear, the sprocket carrier tangs become a loose fit and hence the play you have discovered.

Look at the the ocndition of the rubbers, if they they look well worn replace them, but you can leave them if you don't want the expense.
You'll have a bit more transmission slop but thats about it.

you dont give the where abouts of your location.In the uk the parts are available at any yam dealer @ aroung £35 ukp.

I recently replaced mine on the MKI, only £18 for the 3 from a Yam dealer and took away the worst of the gearbox clunk!

Well, i live in Bulgaria
Here, the Yam dealer is same as the greek Yam dealer. So, i am facing an enormous delay in terms of delivery and an overpriced parts

Can't you order them on-line at Hein Gericke or Louis in, for example, Germany or other European country where the TDM is more popular (France, Italy, Netherlands, or, as a last desparate resort: the UK , (MandP or Wemoto, or eBay) )?

Actually in Bulgaria the TDM is one of the rarest bikes you can see. And its reputation is not that good.
Most of the people say that the engine is crap, because it gets broken frequently. Something that i cannot agree to.
For almost 3 months of riding (riding on a TDM), i've seen 1 MK2, and 3 MK1's.

Hmm, I've always understood the TDM engine is bullet-proof and supposed to be capable of doing many miles without major repairs or rebuilds.
I'd like to hang on to that opinion rather than the Bulgarian one since I've only just bought mine

Get an old plastic bottle or ice cream carton and cut off a couple of strips to pack out the cush drives. Cheaper than new rubbers and should last a few thousand miles.

This type of solutions (ice cream carton, etc.) is quite common here

The rumour about the TDM engine starts from people that ride their bikes, without taking any care for them... They only add oil and gasoline, and hope for the best.

Play in an axial direction may be bearing damage. It's not an uncommon problem. I guess you'll check for that when you are fitting the ice-cream carton

I thought Soft Cheese was the material of choice. Or is that only for some OEM Yamaha parts like emulsion tubes...?

Well, it turned out that my problem is coming from the bearing.
The rubber part is ok. But the bearing inside it is fooked.

Anyone has an idea what exactly is this bearing? I mean like a model number or something?
So i can go directly to the shop (with my bike), instead of taking everything apart.
