Read you insurance booklet and look through the definitions for modification and accessory.

Usually an accessories is an item that is permanently fixed to the vehicle but is not performance enhancing, I did a bike claim recently where the bloke had heated grips, crash bars and a top box. none of which were performance enhancing. His accessories cover was upto the value of the bike, which was a KTM 990 adventure so about 6.5K. He got the full value of the bike (write off) and the value of the accessories, None of which he declared upon inception.

So, you dont always have to declare Mod's as modifications.



Aunty carol has also put my insurance up by £30 this year, i have not had any claims,

I had a policy with them a year or two back. Never had to claim, but they seemed ok, Paddy.
Once yo have followed the moneysavingsexpert type steps and found yer lowest price, its worth goin back to the orig insurer and playing them off against the cheapest quote. Annoying it has to be that way but often works and saves hassle of filling in forms. On various policies this tactic probably saves me a few hundred squiddlers every year.
Doin valve clearances? Use dappers valve shim exchange program and the job will be carroty - Free (other than you postin me yer shims) for sporting members.

I've had to do this on both mine and Mrs Saga's cars this year and saved about 130 squid combined. However, it didn't work on the bike and I have now joined auntie Carol because with her combined Europe breakdown cover I though it was the best deal (approx £160.00 fully comp). What pisses me off is that two years ago I was paying £92 which included £25 legal cover and this year, even though I've had no accidents, the same broker wanted £225 and would/could not match CN
Now on 9er number 2 .....

Same has happened to me with adelaide, they did not care when i told them i had changed the pipes.

If you have declared modifications to them and they say there not interested, and then don't want to pay for them when it comes to claiming then you have a right to claim for them.

tell them that, if they put up a defence tell them you want the original calls pulling and listening too when you declared them. They will have to honour what you have told them you wanted insuring.

if not, escalate the complaint to the next level. and so on until you get a result.

2: Renewed TDM cover. It had gone down a bit because of extra years no claims. Talked through cover on the line to one of Aunty Carols minions. So kept in 'locked building' he says, yep says I 'in a shed'. 'A wooden shed?' says he. Yes.... oh no.... I feared the worst. But no, according to my insurers they prefer a wooden shed to a locked building. No I can't figure it out either but it saved another £9, so no arguments from me. Just had my quote through from Bikesure - £169 fully comp protected with 9+ years NCB with legal aid and personal cover for my TDM900. I also have to have business class 1 insurance because I work out of different offices.

Searched on the web - Hastings were £98 but would have to pay £20 for NCB protection, legal aid was included, £20 for personal cover.

So phoned back Bikesure to see what they could do.

All in for £115 - as before with NCB protection, business class 1, pillion cover, legal aid, personal cover. Did also declare I have Fuel cans and have a top box fitted.
I really do hope the pearly gates, and honourable retribution exist. Latest scam - If you prefer your local dealer to repair your bike then that will be £250 please. Check out the small print in your policy, Sir.
Our specialist repair centres can weld cracks, spray scratches, straighten bends, plastic weld, and all this within just 10 weeks from collection. Won't be a problem to you Sir as we can supply a loan bike at no cost. That is, no cost to you by the way. The £500 a week charge is made payable by the 3rd party's insurer, who's happy it's a relative pittance compared to complex medical/surgical/compensation costs most bike accidents incur.

You tried Ebike? - I used to be with them and declared all my mods (exhausts, power commander etc) for £150 inc breakdown.

It seems like they only want to cover riders and drivers with full no-claims nowadays.

Last year Aunty C wanted £175, this year is £300

Bennetts want £160, covers up to 90 days in europe, but legal expenses, personnal accident, breakdown & helmet + Leather cover all extra, add to that I havn't phoned them yet re the mods to the bike...

Ebike came out at £199, includes legal expenses and 365 days European cover, but no european breakdown cover as bike has to be 10 years old or under

oh, and if I want to speak to someone they use a premium rate number @ £1.02 per minute....

Nah, I prefer to be able to speak to my insurance company if required

given that as far as I aware Aunty C includes european breakdown, legal cover, personnal injury cover, helmet + leather etc etc like for like she still may be the best deal

and it appears no one covers your NCD now until you have 5yrs +

Edit: Called Bennetts, painful 15 minutes on phone trying to explain the very simple mods made to bike, he obviously didnt have a scooby doo about bike & mods to them
Upshot, got to wait for response from underwriters to see if they will quote me but found out their euro breakdown didnt have an age exclusion)

If their premium doesnt change, then adding in their breakdown, legal cover etc package (£100) makes them £30 cheaer than Aunty C...

Similarly last year both bikes 180 from carole this year 271 - hmmm shoparound now and it's considerably cheaper to insure both bikes separately at 65 for the TDM and 88 for the Saturno

I'm with Footman James just had my renewal come last year £248 this year £281 with all the crap going round at the moment I think that is acceptable for my 7 bikes on the policy including the Mk1.
