Insuring An Unregistered Bike.
Here's a new one on me. My mate has a (really) bad back and has finally hung up his helmet. However he's bought a lovely Honda 50 Dream race replica bike literally to have in his lounge as an ornament (and it looks stunning).

He doesn't do the internet and has asked me to help him get it insured so here I am.

Does anyone know the situation here? The bike is unregistered but has a full MOT, but will never be used on the road. It is drained of petrol and will only be used as an ornament in his house. Who do you reckon would insure it against fire and theft? Thanks guys.

Out of interest here it is....

In theory, you should be able to insure the bike on the chassis number. If it’s never used outside the home, could it not be added to the house insurance as a separate asset?

Nah mate, he's tried that one and his company didn't want to know.
Maybe try another insurance company

I'm not lazy, just energy efficient...
Home contents insurance. Declare the vehicle as an ornament/antique ?

EDIT - 'laid up' classic insurance is available, but the vehicle has to be declared SORN, which implies it has been registered http://www.classiclineinsurance.co.uk/la...insurance/

Why is it not registered ?

Thanks for your comments guys, I'll pass them on.  :good:

I got an Italian moped insured on the chassis number, it only lasts for a couple of months though so you need to get your finger out and get it registered. will need a NOVA certificate too

Sorry to hear about that, and the fact that Italian bikes are no stronger than a finger Wink

it was a craking bike, rebuilt from a field bike and I had to get it registered from scratch
