Orthokeratology.........
I'm not sure how many people here wear glasses / contact lenses, if you do and have been thinking about Laser Surgery but are a little worried about the procedure messing up their eyes then OrthoK may well be the thing for you.
Here is a very good website for telling you what OrthoK is.

basically OrthoK is:

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE<!--quotec-->The reduction, modification or elimination of refractive error by the programmed application of contact lenses or other non-invasive procedures.’

Orthokeratology uses Contact Lenses to remould the Cornea, to reduce or correct Myopic (short-sighted) and Astigmatic (irregular surface) errors of the eye. In some ways this is similar to the use of dental braces by an Orthodontist to straighten crooked teeth. The main difference is that if a tooth position is corrected for some months it will stay in the new position. However the Cornea is highly elastic, and always returns to its original shape. For this reason the lenses are worn nightly or on alternate nights after the ideal Corneal shape has been achieved and removed in the morning giving perfect vision without the need for spectacles or contact lenses.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

So basically you wear contact lenses while you sleep that alter the shape of your eyeball. When you wake up you take the lenses out and you can see perfectly (hopefully) all day without the need for wearing glasses / contact lenses.
If you are lucky you will only need to wear the lenses every other night, or if you are even luckier one night in 3.

Anyways, I've started a Blog as yesterday was my initial appointment for the scanning of my eyeballs for the making of the lenses.

My OrthoK Blog

Oh the most important info is the price:

Initial Consultation : £50
First pair of lenses : £100
Monthly cost : £35
The monthly cost includes all further lenses, fluids and consultations. Lenses may need to be replaced on a 3-6 monthly basis.

i used to wear glasses or one day contact lenses and i considered laser surgey.
but i switched to night and day contact lenses which have been great for me.
you get 1 set a month at a cost of £25 a month, you can wear them continuously but should remove them for 4hours a week.
i must admit i rarely remove them except to change them each month.
there is virtually no fogging which occurs with some lenses (except after a 48hour bender when i'm a little dehydrated)
and the optitions i'm with does free 6monthly check ups (or sooner if you want) and lenses are all sent by post.
i often forget i'm wearing the lenses, its like having normal eyes again [Image: good.gif]
