Insurance Issues - RolfieB - 06-04-2012 Hi All, Can anyone tell me, if when my bike is put back on the road (hopefully end of the month), whether I have to declare it a Cat 'C'. I have read on a car forum where people have been turned down Insurance on Cat 'C's. I realise the rules are different for putting cars back on the road. I would have thought the insurance companies would see it has a marker next to it. But I don't want to run the risk of insurance being invalidated because I didn't inform them. Thanks. You will need to declare it and yes some companies won't insure you Insurance Issues - RolfieB - 06-04-2012 Insurance is such a rip off nowadays, whilst I don't have a problem with declaring the bike was a cat 'c'. It really gets me that I will probably end up paying more for the insurance, when A/ I haven't claimed. B/ The bike will be repaired properly, using either good used spares or new genuine. (I wouldn't cut corners with my wife's or my safety). Then if I have the misfortune to have to make a claim, they'll offer a lot less than the bike is likely to cost to replace. I wish I had taken this into consideration when buying it. Don't get me wrong I have enjoyed doing it up, And have been quite willing to spend the extra to get it looking nice. But this insurance aspect is going to be quite honestly a rip off that I hadn't thought about. Insurance Issues - TKH - 06-04-2012 Was the damage so bad as to make the bike really a cat c? I replaced the main cowling as there was a brand new one on ebay in the colour I wanted the bike, a used tailpiece for the same reason. Original side panels & tank are being sprayed to match. Was nowhere near as bad as some Cat 'C's you see for sale. |
