Unfortunately Masterbrewer's Tdm Got Kanga"roo-ted" On The Weekend - masterbrewer - 12-05-2010

The Ride Report.

An air of excitement was building as TonyRDR (DR650), MonoTech (DRZ400), KevS69 (KTM640), GNP59 (KTM625) & myself headed 600kms north of Adelaide for the Flinders Ranges Classic III in fabulous weather.

We took a bee-line on the tar past the Baroosa Valley town of Clare before getting a wiff of the Stone Hut Bakery out to the northwest over rolling hills and sweet tracks, where we were to collect Cheeseburger on his mighty ex-Dakar KTM.

After gorging ourselves on camel pies & other delicacies, it was up Snake Gully Road & out east of Melrose, Wilmington and up the Gunyah Rd to Quorn in the Southern Flinders Ranges to refuel.

Further north along Yarrah Vale Gorge, Warren Gorge past Simmonston ruins and over the fabulous riding Bobby Creek Rd before hitting the black stuff for Parachilna Gorge and into Angorichina Village for an early dust ridding ale or two or ....

Thanks to Dave at the village & his mighty sideways action bus, for the exciting ride into Blinman for their outstanding pizzas. Mind you, since the tar has been laid between Wilpena & Blinman "inflation" has pushed the price of the pizzas up by $4 a hit. Looking back at this shot, why was I holding that specific hand up I ask myself!!!!!!!!!

Saturday saw us riding & stopping for the inevitable "mugs" shot

Riding through the gorges to a frankly forgetable lunch at Wilpena Pound Chalet had some of the group heading back through the gorges, while a few of us tackled the Moralana Scenic Drive for its unforgettable riding experience .......... !!!!!

Casually cresting a small rise and rounding a clump of trees at a leisurely pass, an unsighted roo jumped out clipping my front wheel and ................. not content with that, turned around to check the ground clearance under my bike with the rear wheel launching into the air over him. Pity he was obviously too fat and failed to record the height.

Bouncing & skidding to a holt took its toll on rider & machine, but the good news is ..... no broken bones.

After collecting the many pieces and adjusting what was left on the once mighty TDM, we rode the 60kms home with no front brake lever and a flapping fairing hoping not to have any more confrontations as there would be little chance of reducing speed next time.

Back at camp, Dr TonyRDR didn't waiste any time jumping to action prescribing just the medicine he said and soon half a bottle of "neat" Southern Comfort was consumed together with last night's pizza left overs. It wasn't long before my mind was clear again and apparantly my mouth was working overtime. Apologies if I offended anyone as I can't remember much of those next 4 hours.

Obviously GasGasBird, Lilly's Doctor didn't get as excited as mine, as she had far too much medicine left in her bottle.

The things one has to do these days to get a trophy ........ but much appreciated & many thanks.

It was good to see so many best friends & partners on this trip too.

Great times to remember once again.

Hi MB, glad you survived, the roos are very solid lumps of muscle for sure. Trip looked like a lot of fun. Dont suppose you will be coming over for the TDUT?, would be a change from the outback country! still Eastern Grey's though.

Hey there , glad not too much damage to you n the bike, looks like the roo came off worse. Now the snows cleared over here at least we only have rabbits to contend with. (mostly) One or two do prefer to chase the sheep

Cheers Rob

I'm considering options of an economic insurance writeoff and hopefully get first option on salvage. Currently looking for a second Mk1 to pick the best parts from both.

When we arrived home on a trailer, my fine lady reacted then then then & now nearly back to normal but in reality ....... women? so

Medical prognosis:

TDM: ..................... R.I.P.

( WANTED Advertisement: a replacement Mk1 TDM 850 to keep "The Legend" alive.... contacts anyone? )

Masterbrewer:........... appropriately named (wild) Gamekeepers Thumb ....... more like F**kin' Roo Hittin' Thumb

I didn't realise how often you use your thumb to hold things ............ thank god for double sided tape for the loo paper

Unfortunately Masterbrewer's Tdm Got Kanga"roo-ted" On The Weekend - Jonc - 19-05-2010

Masterbrewer, really glad you are alive and in one piece. Also looks like your TDM only needs some care + new parts and she will be even better than before to kill some more kangaroos. For me your ridereports have always been a very good motivator to take my heavy roadbike and take it into mud or sand. So keep your thumbs up and keep working to get your bike on the (off)road again. P.S. For men it's absolutly OK not to understand the next move of a kangaroo or a woman.

Unfortunately Masterbrewer's Tdm Got Kanga"roo-ted" On The Weekend - masterbrewer - 19-05-2010

Your thoughts & comments are much appreciated jonc

I think you have taken offroading a TDM to extremes though when I follow your escapades I think you're a braver man than me.

I know it would be pity to let "The Legend" die as she's opened so many eyes around the world as to a TDM's capabilities.

I've always been on with her.

21/5/2010: Latest Masterbrewer Medical update .......... Life's never simple ................. I'm f#*ked for 3 months min.

Loose bone fragments floating around the thumb plus separated & coiled ulnar collateral ligament.

Full-on operation Friday 28th with possible tendon transplant from elsewhere for added support .................... first operation in 50 years though ................. think positive, now that's not too bad
