I No Longer Understand The Modern World Of Bikes
I had cause to visit the Triumph dealer for an oil pressure sender for this Thunderbird job.

I asked the young lad behind counter what he thought to the new bike ranges like the Tigers ?

No one here has actually ridden one he says, we dont have bike licenses. We just sell the bikes and finance.

Apparently parts and accessories is a separate business within the same showroom.

Things have obviously changed in 40 years since I bought a new bike. So its just like buying a washing machine now.

£28 for a pressure switch, damn them.
Strange I would have thought that having at least an interest in bikes would have been part of the interview process ?

But then again I don't really understand people these days !

Mind you that's probably cause I'm 1/2 Deaf !
I found this when I bought my Tdm in 2018 from the Superbike factory, the guy knew nothing about bikes and even less about Tdms, just there to take peoples money. Oh yes, and very keen to get you onto finance rather than outright payment, and no room for any discount, take it or leave it, I dont care!
The Blue One : 2004 model owned 2010-2018 much loved, much missed and now living with a man in Scotland Spain.

Finance is what they want you on (for their kickback) in order to soften the blow of a none negotiable price. On two occasions I offered a cash payment and it was refused (for a TDM and an AUDI); also, personal details that have to be given for the all important credit worthiness checks somehow resurface for after-sale promotions and servicing, followed by targeted marketing online (somehow?), often by sister organisations.

Old fashioned customer service and product knowledge is the last thing in the minds of most retailers these days. If you know your stuff (law) most will listen, with distain, but most just want to see the back of you, so if you are planning a major purchase (eg bike) ask your mates for unbiased recommendations as most media outlets merely spout the contents of a press pack in order to remain on preferred reviewer lists.

With age comes wisdom and cynicism (as above) so I must be feeling very old today.

My last test ride of a Speed Twin 1200 the brakes howled badly at low speeds. Mentioned it to them they didnt seem concerned. List price was take it or leave it. So I left it.
