2000 Mile Update
Original blog: Studley's Bloggerydoodaah

Well, 1800 miles actually. The gearbox is still working great, which is errrr great Exclamation However, one 'problem' has come to my attention, and it's something I wasn't aware of when I got the bike, is oil consumption. Most of my mileage has been done on motorways and it's gulping about 150-200ml per 100 miles. Not had a decent spell of pootling only so can't really say how much it's using when I pootle, although it does appear to be less.Soooooooo, time for confession Blush When I did the gearbox I had the cylinders honed which revealed a small section to the front top of one cylinder where the hone hadn't reached, about the size of a lickle egg. I couldn't afford to get the cylinders re-bored and buy new pistons and rings at the time so took the chance on it being ok.I did a compression test which showed no.2 cylinder at 175psi (perfik) and no.1 cylinder at 150psi (perfook). After some thought I decided to see if I could source another cylinder block and thanks to ProffTDM (and CarpeTDM) I was soon the owner of a decent set o barrels at a very reasonable costI was intending to get the work done sooner rather than later but plans didn't work out that way and I'm still no further on with getting the job sorted yet. [b]I have sourced a reputable engineering company locally http://www.stanwoodengineering.co.uk which is nice !I have considered getting the cylinder liners ceramically coated, it'd be interesting to see if it would give me 9'er oil consumption figures, but it's not cheap. About £110 per cylinder last time I looked, although it does include a diamond honeroony. That said, the price is comparable to buying and installing 9'er barrels and there's no messing with skimmin' and shells and conrods etc.Recently checked and adjusted the valve clearances, which was 'interesting' Rolleyes A few months ago I remember setting off back from Ballkeepers house and hearing one of the valves tappin' away like a gud un Shrug Anyhoos, did the valve clearance check and 2 of 'em were out. One was slightly over at 0.21mm (.20 max) and the other was 0.39mm (0.20mm max) Wink [b]Measured it 3 or 4 times, even took the camshaft out and tapped the valve hea etc and measured again, still 0.39mm.[b]Contacted Dappers with me shim request Clappingyellow who speedily supplied the two shims required. During this time I went fer a blast down the M1 to Bobos in Leicester, got back and noticed my tapping was no more Shrug [b]Soooooo, back in again to sort 'em and the 0.39mm was now 0.19mm, checked the other and it was still 0.21mm so swapped that one.[b]Anyhoos, I'll be giving that a thorough inspection when I do the barrels.[b]Apart from the oil issue, the bikes been spot on really. Economy is good and total reliability SmileIn the meantime I've serviced the brakes and I had a go at painting my wheels, also fitted new wheel bearings and some other farkly bits n bobs.[b]Gonna wait 'til after summer to do the work now, I'll just have to try an pootle where possible for now.[b]I'll post up a piccy, when I get a decent one taken Rolleyes
