[b]Don't seem to have done that much since I last blogged. Just been grabbing the odd hour here n there to do some more engwin rebuilderin' stuff and cleaning and painting the water pump and ting.[b]Did the shims and set up the timing. Handy tip, use a lickle magnet on a stick to remove the bucket and shim
It'll pick 'em both up at the same time and you don't need to worry about pliers scratchin' yer buckets or shims goin' AWOL.[b]piccy below...[b]I also noticed, wiv the mk2, it's a bit easier setting up the timing than a mk1. When the cams are lined up wiv the lickle spots and marks on the cam ends and cam covers, the inlet cam lobes are just about vertical and will stay there quite happily with no fear of it slipping. The outlet cam lobes aren't touching the buckets at all.
Soooooo, moving on
I went and bought some non-effeminate Stainless engwin bolts, the pink wans were not welcome on my manly mk2 boike grunt grunt ! I also fitted me noo frition plate along with da clutchy bits, and fitted the rotor cover, neutral sensor doohicky and sprocket plate along with my crap lookin' rocker cover
I'll re-paint it when I check the valve clearances, or when I find out my gearbox is still FUBAR'd, whichever transpires.
Soooo, we've just moved the engwin out from the assembly dept. and into the Quality control dept. where it's currently resting on the 4 seater drop-leaf workbench
BTW IT'S BLOODY HEAVY !!!! Well, it's heavier than moi
Next up, I'm spoilt fer choice...still. I'm curranty repairing my Tang-less Rad wot snapped orf and glueing the inner sprocket cover wot woz broked. After which I'm gonna clean and do a strip
I promised I would, and some peeps have been longing to know exactly what I've got down there
These late mk2 carbs are different so I'll post up some piccys in a day or two when I'm doin' 'em
I was/am tempted to just sling the engwin back in and see if I've fixed the gearbox but, I might as well get the other bits done first as it'll save me time in da long run. That said, the swingarm and shock can be done later, as can the forks n brakes. [b]I've cleaned up the area around where the engwin fits and should be re-fitting it in a couple o days. Might even get it running for this weekend.... prolly be a foot o snow by then
