Gearbox Looks Good To Go !
Original blog: Studley's Bloggerydoodaah

Well, I've had the magnifying glass out and looked very closely at the 3rd gear pinion wheel, the wheel opposite the broken 3rd gear wheel, and couldn't see any defects to the teeth. I've also looked at the rest of the cogs, all good, and checked the axles for any potential bentyness, all good also SmileAfter posting up my prayer for a gearbox in the holy wanted section, the God that is Favs waved his godly goodness over me in the form of a TRX850 gearbox for 30 earthly pounds.....halleyloooooyaaa ![b]God then moved in his mysterious way, using a car of all things, down the A1 to meet me with said holy gearbox ! After feeling the hand of God, with my umble mitt and a bunch of notes, I was blessed with the miracle in the form of a bright shining biccy tin......praise be to God ! and have a nice months holiday in the Canaries too mate Smile[b]Never under-estimate the power that is Carpe-TDM, miracles can happen here SmileTurns out, the 3rd gear wheels are identical, same product number, so all I had to do was swap it over. Didn't need to use bearing puller either so saved a bit not having to buy one. [b]I then put the gearbox and fork selectors/drum back in and checked each gear about eleventymilion times, it's as smooth as a clunky TDM box should be. Then I took it all out again.[b]I'd damaged the two torx screws holding the balancer shafts and they needed helicoiling, along with one of the water pump casing bolt holes that came with a sheared purple bolt thread in it Sunshine [b]Lady luck was with me as all the threads are 6mm and me mate had the kit at my disposal in no time.Currently I'm mostly cleaning. Ordered the gaskalerio's, stem seals, torx screws, etc, should be here next week, and I'm still cleaning. In fact, I still got a lot o cleaning to do.[b]Summing up so far, I'm very pleased with the result. Very little damage and very inexpensive to replace Smile[b]Still gonna get the cylinders honed, £20 at my local honing-erers, do more cleaning, probably need to paint the cylinder and head, measure me ring and piston, clean the doopips, and did I mention I godda bit o cleaning to do.
Sounds like you've had a proper result, nice one!
And be sure you av cleaned it proper like Tongue
Nice wan. Got any piccies of the turd gear and product number? Be interested to see how it compares to the various mkI series.Gaskets from Yam?Just gotta work out how to shove it all together now. Smile
[b]Posted up some stuff in the blog for ya SmileI'm struggling to work out how thin the liguid gasket needs to be to fit onto them tiny weeny lickle bits o metal surrounding dem mahoosive owels Wink 0.5mm ? Bit like painting a perfik masterpiece in 15mins using yer feet !
With regards to finding any (invisible) damage to the various parts, I've used crack detection sprays in the past that will show up things that your eye won't, even with a good magicinificationer. Been a long time since I was in a job that needed them but it saved a fortune over a number of occasions. With all the time invested it could be worthwhile considering.
Cheers for that Smile Not something I'd even thought about, probbly due to me not knowing the stuff even existed Rolleyes [b]I'll look into it, I will !
