Dodgy Mech...
In Hammersmith... Couldn't afford the full dealer service so decided to find a good local bike mechanic and help "the small man" stay in business.
What I got back was a bike leaking oil from the forks. Took it back & stood over him to make sure that it was fully refilled... the mechanic on the job didn't quite know how to do it.!!
Got the bike back & found that it was spluttering & now it won't start!!! after what was always a very reliable bike & always started after a winter rest.
Never took it back for fear of the bike falling to bits because it wasn't put back properly.
The bike has been languishing unused with moss growing on it since.... Arggghhh!!

Any thoughts on how to get the bike started again? CAn I jump it from a car??

The Perpertrator was :

I wouldn't normally use a mechanic without a recommendation. That said I used Southern X on a rec, and I wasn't that pleased with the way the service was handled overall. Took it in with a rattle that I wanted diagnosing, it came out with a rattle and not a word about what they thought it might be. I wouldn't use them again.

Gorn Confusedorry:
What do you mean exactly by won't start? Is it sparking? Are the plugs fouled? Is fuel getting to the plugs? Is the starter turning it over with 'zest' or is it sluggish? Need somthing to go on...cheers, APW
Have you ever lent someone 20 quid and never seen it again? It was probably worth it.

Long Loved TDM is no longer with me...

Was surpised to find that this information and changing batteries couldn't be found on the forum... this should be in "knowledge base" no??
Anywho... I did take a chance & jumped it from a car... no probs.... now I have to take the poor thing to an expensice Yamaha Dealer (£58/hr + VAT) to put my mind at rest & get it back to its former glory.
Thanks for the advice
Check that the caps were replaced on the vac pipes before you fork out for a dealer, I had that happen to me once.
Thanks guys ... bike all sorted out now
