Bifesafe - Ni
Done this 2 years ago and I thought it was excellent. Its completely FOC and consists of an assessed run out with a police biker, takes about an hour. If you are deemed competent then you'll get a certificate which most local insurance companies recognise and you'll get some discount.

My assessor was fairly pleased with me, a small concern regarding which leg I peg down with (I've a habit of using my right when turning right at a junction and they don't recommend that) but on the whole they thought I was sound. Pride comes before a fall they say and two weeks later I threw my Blade up the road

Paddy,

I have just filed the paper work to be one of the Bike-Safe Assessors in the North West.

I am pleased to hear it gets such a positive response.

The police have been trying for years to set up one in our area, RoSPA have just agreed to help out in setting it up.

Will be interesting to see how it goes.

Watching the video there, I can't do that accent,

I'm stuffed!

Cue twighlight zone music. The instructor who has been getting my girlfriend up to speed for her basic handling test offered to do some more advanced training with me. First "class" was yesterday, not on the open road though, we used a closed road to do handling exercises. Typically, it hosed down, first thing was apexing a corner. Basically he set up an entry point & an apex taking us from neutral which is easy to really messed up which is frustrating. The point being to highlight right & wrong on your corner entry. Baring in mind it was soaking wet, he had us cornering close to the edge of the tires & clipping 6" high cones with the foot rests without realising it. Next up was braking in a corner & maintaining your line or shifting it as appropriate, hmmmmmmmm. Bit of a pucker factor their, not a fan of braking in corners........ in the wet. Well, using front & back brake together & counter, counter steering we where stopping astonishingly quickly from about 40kmh mid corner, either maintaining the line & avoiding turning in or steering out & around the imaginary vehicle reversing out under brakes. Excellent training & a stark reminder that your never to old to learn.
Go do some training!!

Part deux next Monday & apparently it is difficult....

Yes and it pays to shop around West Midlands want £65 whereas Wiltshire is free, I personally feel you need to do it on roads new to you in every way so travelling to a different location would make sense.
