Gymkhana Practice
Since I hijacked another thread & now feel guilty I thought I would start a new one showing the practice I'm doing in the hope of getting good enough to do Motogymkhana, in a decade or two....
This is a vid of me trying to do full lock turns with a 1 mtr gate. I come close a couple of times..... The vid will send you to sleep, actually trying it, totally the opposite.

Turning with clenched buttocks

I posted in this forum because the practice relates directly to bike control in general.

Good stuff !

Now try going a lot slower, or try the same on a cambered surface, on a hill.

When I failed my bike test doing the u turn, I was going too fast. I was expected to be able to stop at any time during the man hoover and not drop the bike, which meant riding at a slow walking pace and keeping the bike upright. Just using the rear brake to control the speed whilst keeping the revs high.

That's how we started Studley, slow speed maneuvers for my G/F's basic handling test. She practiced & I joined in. Part of the test is a slow ride, a strip 1 metre wide, 18 metres long which must be ridden in over 10 seconds, over 20 seconds is manageable quite easily once you get your head round using the rear brake to control speed. I think we my have adopted the UK test down here in Un Zud. Part of where we practice is a 6 mtr wide hill & we put a 360 turn on it. Mind over matter.
I'm trying to get faster now, full lock turns with the bike on it's ear. That's what the wee gate helps with, getting full lock to lock & riding it as tight as possible. My wee vid is filmed with a wide angle camera, the road is 8mtrs wide so I reckon the whole exercise is happening within a 6 mtr radius.
As our practice has progressed, starting from very slow & tight we have opened up the course forcing us to be more aggressive with the brakes & throttle. This where the buttock clenching begins & the real test of being able to use both brakes in a corner & control your speed & lean with the rear brake as you go round.
Despite how boring the vids look, for an average & habitual rider like me these exercises are hard work & I'm a far more competent rider because of the practice. I'm even managing to keep my head up!!!!!!

The current UK motogymkhana champ.

Then & now on his GTR 1400. GP8 HERE

I believe he is doing 5 laps in 37 seconds, I'm doing 43's. I reckon a TDM is an easier prospect.... Who wants to be the next UK champ?
