Have a good hunt around, some people are asking way to much for them (take a look in the e-bay section of the for sale forum on here for examples)

There's 2 models of 850, the Mk1 (pre 95) also known as the 3VD, then the Mk2 (96 on) also known as the 4TX, however the original Mk2 then got a facelift in 99 and is referred to as the Mk2a. the 2a is easily spotted due to the digital speedo (analogue on Mk2) and fuel guage (replaces Mk2 temp gauge). Depends where you are but in the UK quite a few seemed to sit in showrooms for a while meaning they can often be registered a year or 2 later than thier build year so be aware that year of registration might be the full story. This thread is a usefull check, and the family tree will show you the yearly colour schemes.

If you have a good hunt around the forum you should find known issues with each model. Main ones for the Mk1 are the regulator/rectifier and the front sprocket (both easily fixed).

Welcome to Carpe by the way.

Welcome Scotty. I remember that feeling. When I picked mine up I was wearing my new helmet for the first time too. After a while I thought the helmet was a bad fit as the sides of my face ached. Then I realised it was because I'd been grinning ear to ear for the last 20 miles.

Hello everybody! My name's Dr Kammelryder!
Sorry for the delay in my first post, I joined hoping my bike would turn up that night and would post up pictures at the same time but the bloke can't get it started. Seems that there's a fuel blockage (runs on easy start) and I'm getting a little stir crazy.
It's a red, clean, shiney, undented, 1991 MK1, I've got to put new tyres, brake pads and fork seals then MOT it. I've wanted a TDM ever since they first hit the dealership I worked at but I've never had the readies at the right time untill now. £400.
Well I think it's a bargain. the last owner must have been ahem 'verticaly challenged' as this is the lowest TDM I've ever sat on and it's not shock sag. Forks are through the top yoke, seats been lowered.
Still waiting but enjoying trawling old posts for mods to improve the braking and handling, I like 'em to stop first, go round corners second, then tune the engines last.
