I've got all those on my 'Translap' at the moment, with the exception that I have the Scottoiler Dual Injector. The Scottoiler oil seems to vary its viscosity enormously with temperature...in summer the back end of the bike gets covered in oil whilst in winter the chain gets dry. It's such a pain in the ars* to lie next to the bike with a stopwatch counting the drips every time the weather changes that I just can't be bothered anymore. I'll try the Loobman next...'Keep It Simple' has to be best And at 5'6", I should be well below the screen<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Do the 70-80 mile daily commute to the Smoke, mix up M3 + town work, as you may have guessed a few of us reckon the TDM is just the job for that

Brakes are same as all recent(ish) Yam brakes, require strip / clean / lube at least twice a year to keep them up to scratch if you riding in crap weather and high mileage.

If you give them a good going over before winter they'll fair better and be 'easier' to do next time in my experienceI use this on the pistons

Had fun tracking something like this down, Bykebitz.co.uk have it in stock/can get it.
Its around £13 but mine has lasted for ages & was worth while investment IMHO.

Regular coats of ACF-50 too, recently become fan of this stuff.
Coated TDM in Oct/Nov, rode till Jan before washing it (was starting to get real rat bike look going ) washed bike, came up clean as with no (new) corrosion from the winter

As for photo's your best bet is one of the hosting sites such as Photobucket (other hosting sites are available) then copy and paste the IMG code, like this.

Hi all,

Another newbie here - I'm Ben and I'm in Edinburgh. Nearly 28. Currently have a 650 Dragstar Classic, which I've had for just over a year since doing my Direct Access. A non-biker when I bought it, I failed to appreciate exactly what I wanted from a bike - having been into the cruiser idea since I was a kid, it was naturally the kind of bike I thought I wanted.....wrong! No weather protection, slow, crap brakes, crap handling, and uncomfortable for a 6'2" bloke. So, it's time for it to go, and I've figured out that a TDM900 fits the bill for it's replacement pretty well.

Intended use would be day-to-day commuting into the centre of Edinburgh, quite often twos up, the occasional weekend away up north or down south, and the odd sunday Borders blast with a CBR600-owning mate.
I want something that's easy enough to filter traffic, can take the wife and luggage, but can provide a good bit of fun out on the B roads.

So I'm looking around the older end of the market, maybe up to '04 for my budget. What would be the better compromise - newer bike with higher miles, or older one with lower miles? I suppose maybe it just comes down to looking at the condiditon of the bike, evaluating how it's been looked after etc.

This forum looks like a very helpful one, so hopefully I'll be a full-time TDM owner soon, and will be able to contribute my own £0.02!

Ben
Hi Ben, there' a few of us in Edinburgh with TDMs, second had 900s can be great value, although you don't see too many in Edinburgh. Go for the best condition one you can find, age isn't too important, and neither is a bit of milage. Mebbe we'll hook up for a run once you've found yerself 9er.

Better late then never..

Hello everyone!

I'm 27, from Constanta, Romania. Dreamin' about bikes for at least 10 years, I finally got one. Used to be a big-time cruiser fan; luckily I have a good friend who's a no-nonsense biker - he happens to be from England - he thoroughly explained to me the difference between spending time polishing chrome or spending it grinning on some beautiful twisties. Hence I chose the TDM, a '93 dark blue Mk1 to be specific. I love it and am sorry to only have done 2500 km's on it in the two months since buying it. Hope to learn lots more about this great piece of machinery; I'm starting to feel sorry for my poor budget - there's so many things I'd like to get for my new ride.

Asfalt uscat!

Marius

I have no idea! I've noticed it's not original when I bought it and to me it looks like a recover. Dunno when it's been done. Pillion strap might have been fitted at the time of the recover. I didn't change anything to it (yet), it came to me like this - with the Givi windscreen, the top box and the racing brake lines. I'm proud to say it IS lovely! I was thoroughly impressed when I saw it for the first time! I'm the stoopid bassad that scratched it afterwards. It's my first bike and it took some getting used to.. the weight especially. We get along fine now and will do even better. I'll try to take care of it the best I can and I'll be needing expert Carpedian help to do that.
