Scottoiler Problem
.. or maybe arsematic TDM problem.

Me Scottoiler has stopped functioning. Its not the feed, there is plenty of oil. Traced the vacuum poipe back to carb T (without fairing/tank removal) and vacuum poipe looks intact. Took vacuum poipe off at oiler and couldn't feel. vacuum but guess it's a tiny vacuum anyways?

Took badger off tonoight and sucked on the delicious vacuum connector...and a feed arrived! So either TDM don't have enuff puff or valve is stiff.

Tryin to get oil ooot of Scottoiler to rinse innards....but how on earth do you get oil oooooot? Does the top come off?
Doin valve clearances? Use dappers valve shim exchange program and the job will be carroty - Free (other than you postin me yer shims) for sporting members.
Vac will be strongest on over run but if you pull the pipe off the oiler while its ticking over I'd have thought you'd hear a change in the engine if the pipes ok.

Thanks Catte. Yeah no change in enjun when vac removed. Hmmm might be fairing/tank off job then.

Solved the how to empty a scottoiler conundrum....use the scottoiler bottle in reverse. Worked a charm.

Now for a WD farty rinse and prime (if it will) and clean ooot the feed brass connector with EGR cleaner.

Snot done bad for a 23 year old oiler.

Done all of above. Still no feed when i sucked on the teet. But hey a bit odd, I can hear/feel the valve operating.

Soo I removed the now extremely clean and clear brass feed adapter and whadya now I get a great feed. Connected unit to boike vacuum and great feed....reattached clean and clear brass adapter..no feed. So it's not the TDM being arsematic.

Soooo the problem is summat to do with how the brass adapter connects to the unit ,O_o

Have emailed scottoiler to see if they can provide the solution and will await the "here's a link to our new reservoir" email. :-P

is the brass a one way valve?

Hi drewps,

Lovely to read from ewe. Hope you are a long way recovered from your slight tumble. :-\

It's not a one way valve but it does have another function. I have done some more digging and I think I'm only getting a feed without the brass adapter fitted because it's leaking. The brass adapter pulls the innards tight against the base and then when applying a vacuum I'm lifting the whole innards rather than opening the needle valve.

The unit is completely dismantled now so i can inspect everything and try and get me noggin around why it ain't working.

So far I know the diaphragm is intact and I can hear the valve...so onwards from there, will report back.

Stick to motorcycles it seems safer
I might have a spare scottoiler ifn ya need one Daps ?

I could sure do with one to test with if possible please.

I now have mine functioning but won't function on boike vacuum. So either problem with vacuum connection (checked and there is some vacuum). Or scottoiler is operating but not well enough to open needle valve.

Snot the oiler that's the issue. So is either the vacuum poipe, rubber elbow or arsematic TDM! I can see it's all connected so boike to bits time.

I managed to wriggle the vacuum elbow out from under the tank without dismantling boike. Ahaaa a tad perished..after 20+ years.

I cut a small piece of vacuum hose and connected it directly to vacuum without old elbow and poipe and tadaaa. Working oiler.

So will initially just change the elbow and leave existing poipe which I rectum will fix. If not will change poipe too.
