What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today?
Rode it for fun and got gently reversed by a van and trailer! I'd pulled up behind as it came to a stop then the reverse lights came on, by the time he realised I was there the front end of the bike was well under it.

I did shout some rude words at him......

Luckily it seems to be mainly a well buggered front mudguard and a slightly mangled fork tube stone guard and a scuff to genny cover. (see wanted section)

Once he'd stopped and got out he couldn't have been more apologetic and seemed like a decent chap (he was also a biker).

😲
It rode home fine so no major damage, I just got a bruised leg where I bashed it in the rapid decamping, didn't fancy being under there with it.

The guy that reversed into me was asking if I was into british super bikes, I now have an email address for a guy in Bennetts(who sponsor the british super bikes series) who is expecting my email to sort a full hospitality meet with a lap in the safety car. :good:

Cadwell park was a recommendation but it's in the middle of a planned boaty holiday, now snetterton is the closest and falls good for us so just got to check with dog sitter before emailing, could borrow the company van for the weekend and chuck a couple of airbeds and a portapotti in the back for camping, what's not to like.

That's worth a bruised leg and a front mudguard.

Ironically no insurance company will be involved claim wise but an insurance company will be providing the hospitality! :good: :drinks:
It's in a quote as it's the only way it would let me paste and couldn't be arsed typing it again.

Not pretty but at least it's rideable!

I only seem to find font mudguards in black and can't be faffed with painting so may wait till a red one turns up.

Used a heat gun and superglue get bit's roughly into place, seems the bicarb trick with superglue works, then gaffer taped the crap out of it to make up the missing bits.

If you can't find one, for things like that I've had good success using the fibre glass resin kits.

A few layers on the full front underside to hold everything together firmly and then some filler on top if needed and a flash of paint and it'll be fine for anything but a close look (who looks that hard at mudguards) Smile .

Started to declutter the garage, a hateful job. But I came across an MRA bubble type screen, so thought I would give it a try and go out for  lunch.

It's quite a good screen, wind hits me in the neck when I'm in the normal riding position (6' tall). Earplugs help.

Pilot 5's well and truly run in now Smile

Today I went out for a ride after finally completing the suspension linkage service. Bliss!

The sun was shining and the rear end  definitely felt a more 'fluid', which was not surprising as all the needle bearings apart from the top dog leg ones had disintegrated leaving only the casing and a pile of rust. The bushes were pitted and you could see the impression of the needle bearings worn into the hardened metal.

One thing I discovered, and I'm not sure if anyone else has used them, is Megazip parts. Do a internet search, I think they're based in Japan and post from warehouses in Japan and the USA. They are cheaper than Fowlers, I had to get a new carrier as the original was pitted and gouged to f**k.  $120 including P&P, against Fowler's £130.  Did have to wait 3 weeks though, but that gave me time for a good undercarriage clean (the bike's, not mine).

My experience is yet another salutary warning to service the suspension linkages before a catastrophic failure.

Fixed my fairing mount lugs (the rectangular holes the sidepanel locates in) with the old baking powder and superglue trick. If you've ever looked up anything vaguely technical online you've probably seen it. Didn't think it'd work but stone me, it did.

Luckily I have a spare nosecone which is in worse nick than the current one, but it has all the locating holes intact, and I was able to take a Blu-Tac mould of it to then offer up to the bike. Used a smear of Vaseline lip balm so the mould didn't stick.

Raided the kitchen for baking powder, made a little coke spoon out of a lolly stick, and layered up powder and glue. If I did it again I'd want more liquidy glue but that might have to come from somewhere more specialist than B&Q, which only had quite viscous stuff. I also put a paperclip in there as rebar, then did quite a lot of Dremelling to tidy the edges.

It ain't pretty, but it's not on view, and so far it seems strong. If I was one of those modern influencer types I'd have made a tiktok of it, but you'll have to settle for a pic.

1996 TDM850 in Yellow, Motad Nexxus, MK1 bashplate, Acerbis handguards, K&N, Xenons, Aux lamps, Bluespot calipers, Renthal 755 bars, DIY panniers, JBX-inspired gear indicator.  (Sold 2025.)

Bikes wot I have had and dun't have any more: 1983 Honda CB125TDC, 1976 Kawasaki S1C (early KH250 stroker triple), 1986 Honda VF500F2, 1992 Kawasaki KLE500.
took the tdm out for a bimble.

the bike totally shut down at the m61/m65 junction, luckily at a red traffic light. pushed over to a safer area and found the 7.5amp fuse had blown. replaced fuse and decided to carry on as I'd only fret if i rode home and not tested it fully.

190 miles later, no issues. I think it just snapped as the break was on the edge and 28 years of riding just metal fatigued it.

"As I Lay Rubber down to street, I pray for traction I can keep. But if I skid and begin to slide, please dear god protect my ride"

Mods; Oil pressure switch, neoprene rear inner mudguard, scottoiler, highway pegs,  fenda extenda, 1999 carbs and airbox, Kais suspension setup, later clutch springs, LED lamps, Metmachex swingarm, Hagon Shock, Oxford heated grips, 4 way fused accessory Bus, 17" 3CV front wheel, Michellin R6 tyres, GPS speedo, 5' ignition advance.
Sure no bulbs went out? It can cause an intermittent short, enough to blow a fuse.
