Replacing Chain Question

I haven't got the bike with me at the mo,( don't ask, that's another gripe for another day.  orry:  )  and I've got a chain waiting to be put on.  Am I right in thinking because it's a hanging engine, the chain can be removed without splitting and therefore a chain already joined can be installed ? I'm trying to picture the cross-tube underneath the engine and I can't remember if it's in between the chain.

Pretty sure you'll need to split the chain unless you pull out the swing arm.

Swing arm has to come out if chain is endless most chains have rivet links

I think that I’d just pull the swing arm and take the opportunity to grease everything up properly while it’s apart. If it hasn’t been apart before, it’s a ticking time bomb for bearing failure with the minuscule amount of grease Yamaha used when they assembled them. If it’s been apart before, ignore that and just use a split chain.

You use a chain rivet tool to open the dimple in the rivet link. The side plate is tight on the pins and has to be pressed on with the tool. Like this. 525 DID chains come with rivet link and o rings in the box.

I have an Ognibene chain rivet tool. Looks different to the one on the link but I think it works on the same principle. I have learnt from before to at least measure the width of the other links and try and get the rivet to that width so it doesn't bind. I dont know if thats the correct way but seems logical.
