Gotta be a few peeps doing similar.
Sure we got peeps localish who only fit new clutches etc was hauled out of bed to go get swmbo who'd broken down and given our work patterns and time of day 5pm, left with little choice as my garage was literally over the bridge, even so aircooled rang a clutch place up because he was livid at the cost and was quoted around £400-500 anyway and that wont have been with vat, is what it is, nowt i can do and she has to have the car for work..... everything is a mega expense with a car nowadays.

Dual mass flywheel by any chance? That seems to make clutches stupidly priced.

Current toys: '99 XT600E, 2000 4TX, '82 Princess 30DS (where the username comes from), No longer a '03 Fazer thou.

Does sound a bit pricey to me as I've done them. Normally around 3/4 hours which would be £200 +clutch kit and VAT here. I've no doubt the kit has gone up in price since I walked out.

Don't think they do a diesel model although could be wrong, generally that's where you'd find a duel mass.

When you need it sorted you just have to live with the price.

Aftermarket kits vary in price as you will know Dave, but my mechanic wont generally fit anything but oem !! going by your prices he is a little expensive but i knew that anyway, he is reliable and i've never had any issues with work he's done on either cars in the past, and importantly he can be trusted although he's sticking it right up me on this one  Lol

A Scandinavian that doesn't speak up for the 5 cylinder Volvo diesel ? They seem to get some crazy high miles on them

His videos are so well detailed that when my daughter's Fiesta clutch failed I was able to identify all the steps from one of his videos to repeat for myself. I've done a few clutches before which made it easier. I sent  him a grateful message because it saved me from having to search all over the internet to get all the facts together.

He's done a smart thing to start earning some money off Youtube, A proper clutch ninja

Doin valve clearances? Use dappers valve shim exchange program and the job will be carroty - Free (other than you postin me yer shims) for sporting members.
I bought a 14 plate Insignia Estate 7 months ago when it was on 97k, Now approaching 113k and all is good. It had recently been used as an airport taxi and had gained 30k miles in previous 6 months, but it had been well looked after. Huge capacity, very comfy, nice to drive and normally 50mpg+, unless towing or doing loads of town work.

There should be some kind of algorythm that factors in the impact on the environment related to running older vehicles when it comes to taxing them.

Huh 34,000 miles, surely thats not right.  No recall or anything ?

 

Been doing local pootling and getting just under 50mpg, can't grumble at that. Could prolly improve that if I sat there looking at, and reacting to, the 'live economy gauge' as I'm convinced that's what other's are doing when I'm following them, but it aint gonna happen.
Found out after the fact it's common on this motor around 35k-40k miles, one fella has had 3 clutches in 120k, so bang goes the economy of the car, problem apparently stems from improper adjustment of the clutch pedal (cable operated) which then foobars the clutch bearing shaft thingy, new clutch sold as a 3 piece kit, then 2 new tyres at 2700 miles for the Himmy, so that little lot  put paid to me joining you at the weekend.

Well that issue is clearly something wrong in the venting systems
Engine wise cant go wrong with a TDi PD engine since they are bombproof and can be remapped if you need a bit more grunt. Currently have SEAT Ibiza (VW platform) with TDi PD 100 engine great reliable engine just pity about the rest of the car’s build quality
