Trying to pull things into line, I thought I'd post here the latest on the dialogue with Germany.

In answer to my question about setting up an English-speaking "international" page on their site, Lars (aka "Der Navigator"), in their administration, has just written:

<i>There is absolutely no problem to start new threads in the "smalltalk" or any other board in non-german language. Maybe a tag in the subject line like [english] [international] or [x-link to carpe] etc could help to mark threads for international audience.

Main disadvantage probably is the non-existence of localized versions of the frontend for englich, nederlands, français, italiano....

If traffic shows to be significant, we can discuss to create a separate board (like tdm-italia did), but for the moment I would prefer to wait for some time.

Feel free to pass this invitation on to Carpe and any other TDM group. Hope you can cope with the german UI.

Best regards from south-western Germany,

Lars
</i>

Guinness or somebody - can we make reciprocal links as transparent as possible upfront?

In the TDM Italia there is a board for English speaking visitor and members. You might need to register to access to site, this is the link:

http://www.tdmitalia.it/forum/index.php

Also the are putting toghther what they call the "Village 2007" this year that is the National Get2Gether in June in the Dolomites, more or less at the same time as the Germans are.

Hope this helps,

we are still awaiting the release of the content management system that will integrate with the forum/blog/gallery.
then we can start adding all the content we had on the old site AND of course
<b>all new content and links will be added at that time</b>.

but in the meanwhile we'll setup a "add your link" sticky in the Language Valley
edit:> HERE is that link
thanks to all the supporting members we have the cash to purchase the CMS, just waiting for the release of the first stable and full version.

We have some "friendly sleepers" in Carpe - just had a note in the German forum from SwissGe who's already a long-term Carpe member but only a rare participant in these pages. I guess Dandy, Guinness et al. will recall him and probably others?

Ge also seems to be waiting for things to happen - it's become a bit circular?

In the meantime, I've picked up 2 things from our German friends:

1) Carpe has been largely invisible to them - have had a request to add it to their list of links
2) There IS a French-speaking forum, at http://www.ouestlekeum.com/ - well constructed (similar to Carpe), quite big, and interesting, with a familiar logo...[attachment=o262]. Has a code step/email loop in the registration procedure btw.

One day this will all come together.....? [Image: unsure.gif]

I've tried twice to register on the French TDM site - a process which operates on an email loopback, with an individual authentication code for security, seemingly at each login. However, I've had no messages in 36 hours while both email addresses I used to register are now "occupied" so I'm kind of stuck in limbo. E-mails seem to fail to load.

Anybody else tried? JBX - are you around to advise?

I've finally got around to introducing myself and Carpe to the French forum and had a fair swarm of positive responses. It's just possible they're an even madder bunch than us lot* [Image: good.gif] [Image: yahoo.gif]
We'll see if anyone responds to the invitation to visit us but meanwhile, the signs being good, it may be worth keeping in mind that they're close neighbours for the sake of sharing GTG's etc. in either direction, so I suggest
1) We need to keep good calendar records of planned events, as the other fora do
2) We could consider including European guests in RTT08 (etc.). If so, things need to be scoped out and posted well in advance
Anybody care to make any comments in this area?
3) I'll try to report anything interesting from over there, but hope others will join in. Time to practise yer French!

*Quote from the French site: "If ever you feel useless and depressed, just remember you were the fastest sperm in the bunch"

PS the French forum is called "Ouestlekeum", pronounced like "Welcome", and according to JBX means "Where is the guy?". Cracking logo, which they have on various bits of merchandise.

The Germans have some natty graphics for their big GTG next month - shirts are customised with your name on the front! For anybody heading that way they have a raft of tours set up including a "late brakers" daytrip for speedfreaks and headbangers, with an emergency doctor on hand!

I`m ok wit French connection.. got contacts there and so on and so on.. Germany..ok, but not for me.. I like the ins from America, Australia, Netherlands etc etc.. but I have a lot of connection with Spain ( Madrid, Toledo, Zaragoza, Malaga etc etc.. ) ... my question Pict .. is there a Spanish Carpe.. or similar.

I cant get me head round this Searching the net thing.,, soz

By the way I`m perking up to the Peterborough trip.. and can I also say as goes meets, isn't it better to just put up on the calendar " Devils Bridge-kpnuts" on a particular date. You then look to calendar for this weekend and say "oh.. think I`ll go to devils Bridge this weekend there`s Blah Blah going" ,, or "feck that, so and so`s going..." [Image: rotflmmfao.gif]

Anyway I`m going for beer I`ve been stuck in van all day wit the wife [Image: huh.gif] ... long delivery trip, long rest needed.
Well, everyone knows that the speed of light is 299,792,456 meters per second. and thats all very fine and dandy, and it explaines a lot in our universe ......or is maybe it opens up more questions than answers, and the most important of those is....what is the speed of dark?

Don't think so, Keith - nothing very obvious, anyway.

Picking up from Andy's question about the size and activity of other clubs, this is a meeting pic. from the Ouestlekeum collection....

It also goes some way to explain why I had well over 30 replies to my posting there within 24 hrs!

By the way, do pick up on the posting from frenchrocco81, who has bravely crossed tha channel to join Carpe
