Got the lurgi not covid, so laid up a bit
Whats the trick for holding the damper rods on a 4TX? Wooden broom handle or is there a hex in there?

If it's a 43 mm fork probably a 29mm hex or 1.1/8"
Sounds like the same gadget I made for my XT forks then, good stuff!

OEM fork seals turned up today so after work whipped the forks out and took back into work, stripped, cleaned and left draining so should be able to sort them tomorrow.

Took damper rod bolt out with a nut runner leaving the spring in to stop it spinning and found one had no copper washer (not leaked though), found a couple of copper washers in the shed so no biggie.

Got my front discs fitted so now I'm back on the road
Forks back in but had a bit of a dopey moment, found a rough edged pit around the seal area of the fork tube that was doing all the leaking so did the old trick of buff the high bits off then clean out and fill the pit with a few dabs of silver nail varnish (always used clear before but she had silver), decided to heat the tube a bit to help the varnish dry hard so blasted a heat gun down the tube, then the voices in my head kicked in "there's a nylon ring in there you moronic muppet!", bugger! nylon ring slightly mis-shapen due to the heat gun... Huh

Stupid me!!! :istupid: :istupid: :istupid:

So if anyone has a pair of decent 43mm 4tx forks or just tubes for sale I'm probably in the market.

It's rideable but I don't suppose it will help the damping on that side, still safer than brake pads full of fork oil.

With a bit of heat (read a lot of heat) from the fine propane torch I got the 4 exhaust stud nuts off without snapping a stud.

3 hours later the stainless down pipes and colectors are no longer brown and minging but nice and shiny and everything is back together.

Cleaned the lambda sensor whilst everything was apart

With the blow torch ?

What magic did you choose for the downpipes ? I've seen lots of votes for Harpic or a similar product
<p style="text-align:center;">Ohlins, PC3, fuel cut defeat, +4deg timing, 17" front wheel.
Harpic worked very well on mine, the black bottle..power plus.

Boike started, after months, and moved from shed to garage (garage empty after selling me MGB) after a quick shake down up the road. Next get it booked in for an MOT and build a new shed/small work shop for it while I look for something to replace MGB.

Boop.

Took it for a good hard run along a very bumpy road, so far no leaks from forks and handling nice, loving the road attack 3's, feels so much smoother through the corners and confidence inspiring.

Changed the coolant and whilst I was in the area discovered I also need front discs and will soon be following Lee with contoured EBCs.

I also removed the "winter plumage" (handlebar muffs) and put the hand guards back on.

I was going out with my son for his first ride of the year, no doubt with his Ducati Desert Sled, check shirt and trendy beard he would have refused to park next to me if I'd left them on.................
