Quote:Good point, The airbox mod can be causing problems. I will try to find an used airbox lid with the snorkel intact. I have already ordered 155 and 160 size main jets, but I will try changing the airbox lid first.
Â
Stick with the new lid snorkel if you feel that the problem persists or becomes worse.Â
Â
Try to find what else needs to be changed in order that the engine runs well with a standard airbox.
Â
You'll have a better baseline setting to work from.

So, nothing has been done to the bike since august last year. The new airbox lid is still not attached. But will be.

I am starting to suspect that the emulsion tubes are worn. Will try to check them tomorow.
Â
Does anyone know about the markings on the needles? Not the same marking on both side needles. Is it normal?
Right side needle marking: 6CLI
Left side needle marking: 6DJP
Â
Has anyone had problems with worn throtle bodies? Has anyone replaced the throtle bodies?

According to the HAYNES, the needles you have are correct and in the correct location.

Thank you. Thats interesting. I thought that the needles on both sides should be the same. I need to get hold of a Hynes manual.

I took apart the carbs, but cannot find a way to remove the emulsion tubes. Is it possible to remove thoses on a -98 model? It is nothing like for the mk1. http://www.carpe-tdm.net/ipb/index.php?showtopic=4806
I will try to find a way to check if they are oval without removing them.

Yeah, the later mk2a carbs are totally different to the other carbs.
Â
I think it may be possible but, you'd need to press out the old ones and then press in the new ones and there's no tutorial on how to do this.
Â
kedo.de sell the emulsion tubes so it must be possible.

Now I have measured the ovality of the emulsion tubes. With a fairly primiteve method I have determined that there is a ovality of 0,15 to 0,2 mm on both carburettors. I measured aprox 2,5 and 2,7 mm diameter. 2,7 being in the direction of flow of the carb, 2,5 mm 90 degrees to that.
Â
For me 0,15 and 0,2 mm sounds quite much. Have any of you any preferences.
Â
The needles on the other hand look good.
Â
I have also figured out how to press out the tubes. I will brobably do a rebuild with new tubes, throtle bodies, gaskets, orings and so later this summer. This must be done before trying to adjust anything.

Are those brackets hidden behind the fairings?Â
Â
They look well strong enough for the job, if a little industrial (no disrepect intended)Â
Â
If I were to go down that route I would have made brackets out of steel tube in a trellis type fashion, if you know what i mean. Â
Â
love the project, keep up the good work, you are inspiring me to get back into the garage!

I thought the snowboarding picture from 2008 needed to be updated, so went with the hawaiian drinking a latte look. It was taken at a silent disco which from the outset I let everyone know I thought i was a ridiculous concept, then spent all night jumping round the house like an imbecile
