Tracer 7 - The Closest To A Tdm You Get In 2021?
I just came back home with my new T7 now having some 320kms on the clock. Really pleased with it, coming back with comprehensive report tomorrow. Cheers! 😎

Ok, I'll start:

It's smaller, you have to look down to see the gauges.

It's lighter, some ~30kgs, which is good at low speed and in hairpins but gives poorer comfort on motorways...

The engine is a gem! The Mk1 suffers from a flat spot between 2.5k an 3k revs - the cruising speed on b-roads. The T7 has a massive midrange - roll-on from 80-120km/h in 5th is hilarious compared to the Mk1 and is way better than the 9er as I remember it. What I would desire was the kick in the upper rev range, but it's lively. And extremely usable - right where you need it for fun riding. 6th gear is an overdrive, real driving is better kn 4th/5th.

Steering is divine - point-and-shoot. Especially the long fast curves, yiu hit the ideal track at first attempt. Anf flickable, too. This combination surprised me the most.

So the not-so-good: Rear suspension. Utter shite. Coming from a Nitron shock I was ...shocked... I expected nothing but it was worse than I could imagine. The front was fairly good, I think they've fitted a cartridge damper now. May need some valves, hard yo tell before the shock is sorted.

Brakes are familiar to a long time blue spots rider, a bit shocking to ride a bike with 0kms on the clock and brakes tvat needed some scrubbing-in to work.

Ok, summary tomorrow😎 Cheers!

On display claiming 75mpg/3.8L-100kms, not verified. Distance covered was a mix of careful and engaged riding on B roads and some 120kph motorway cruising.

Seat felt hard at first, but I forgot about it which is a good sign. Will upgrade it at some point.

Wind screen is ok in tallest setting, juuust about to have some buffeting.

There is definately some snatchiness and on-off feel to the engine which will take me some time to get used to. While I love the hard engine braking at speed as I find it the ideal way to adjust speed into turns, it's a challenge to me in slow manouvering. Also, a slipper clutch would be nice. I tried this for the first time on the F900XR and loved it!

I was in doubt the first few kms from the dealer, and really thought about maybe keeping the Mk1 for makkng the final decision later. "Later" showed to be ~200kms down the road, when I started to get usdd to it and opened the throttle more for increased speed and lean. It really ticked the two boxes on my desire form: A more lively engine and effortless cornering. Can't see me going back...

Also, kinda strange if you think about it: in this world of increasing number of electronic gizmos on new bikes, the T7 has the exact same functionality as an ABS 9er from 2005 - part from an additional mpg reading! And a step back too - only 12hrs clock...

What's to become of the MK1 bjorgey or already gone?
Doin valve clearances? Use dappers valve shim exchange program and the job will be carroty - Free (other than you postin me yer shims) for sporting members.

It will be washed & have a few minor scratches polished to be advertised for sale. I expect for near giveaway money...😐

Lucky to get 1/10th of the T7 price...

Thanks! Would probably loose more trying to sell a bike with no rear shock 😁 - the old one went in the bin long ago...

That list is interesting, but doesn't include either of my other bikes - the CBX750 or Cagiva N90.

It also brings about a feeling of regret. I sold an all-singing all-dancing Penske shock off my  VFR800Fi when it is the exact same length as the TDM @ 325mm. Ah well!

Back to the T7. A clubmate has a Tracer 700 and is well pleased with it, and I've read reports saying it is a modern-day TDM900. Howzabout a pic or two, Bjorge?

CBX750FE in reserve; Cagiva N90 125 now rebuilt & in use.

I knew it was a good platform, when out on a fast run with a group, one of the young lads was on an MT-07....We took a slip road off the M74 motorway which looped back under the motorway on a tight bend, the TDM was about at it's limits touching the pegs/stand, and this lad just rode around the outside of me under power !

In my MT-07 the engine feels similar to the TDM 900, and it certainly is a cracker.  You never get bored with it. Enjoy your new bike.

Yes, similar power delivery. A tad bitt less choppy on low revs, as far as I remember the 9er. I'm not sure if the engines behave exactly the same after it came in EURO5 - version. Max power droppet a coupla BHP and max torque rpm dropped ~500.
Bjørge
I think theyre using the same engine in the new R7 too, so there may well be some performance upgrades on the market in the future.
In the R7 there is different gearing and electronics, at least.

I was a bit confuzzled reading a Tracer thread about a T7 but the pic clarified it. :good:

I suspect a lot of your comments apply to the Tenere 700 which is very much on my wish list.

As time goes by I'm getting dirtier and slower and hankering after a 2021 trailie.

TDM 850 Loud and unusual. CRM 250r Woo hoo! DT 230 Lanza Fiddled with.... Bloody hell, is that legal? GG Randonee AKA "I didn't think that was possible".
Yeah, just thought of it yesterday, you guys say T7 for rhe Tenere, not the Tracer - will no more do so 😁
Bjørge
I'm just a bit thick.
