I wondered how the Nordkapp venture would pan out. I met a bunch of Italian bikers coming the other way (complete with support van, no less) in N.Norway around 2000 and they said the same - long days of not-much-to-see for the last 1000Km to the Cape & back.

 

Your description of wet gear festooning the hut was VERY familiar from my own trip down Finland, as well as the roadworks :-D

Neither of us regrets going but let's just say that the trip was in keeping with the rest of 2020! Less than it could have been and not my first choice.



I would go back: Lapland is beautiful but perhaps next time chuck the bike on the car-train that saves people from those first 1000km...

Yeah, it's really a bunch of miles to get to Cape North. Never been there myself, but drove a bus like 2000kms north from Oslo many years ago. Going the coastal route is spectacular but extremely time consuming. They're building a highway up there for those who want to go far in a straight line....

NEVER SAY "STRAIGHT LINE" TO ME AGAIN!!

 

Seriously, but the return trip I was getting very good at estimating how many kilometers ahead I could see on the straights: Pick a landmark and watch the odometer.  Only way to stay sane...



That was the real shame: Lapland was gorgeous but getting there was so dull.



As I said in my ride report: I'm going there for Christmas with my young daughters: I think I will take that car train up.
