on my metmachex, i put the axle nut on the other side same as the original.

Any advantage the other way?

Prolly because the 3VD has a castellated nut and the 4TX has a nylock type nut.  I'm assuming that if the axle siezed on the wheel, the nut can't spin itself off.
Its always been like that Drewpy, I've not changed it!
Is there a hole in the end of your axle for a split pin to go in Butch ?  If there is then ya need a castellated nut, if not then prolly better to fit the axle the other way around.

Straining at the leash eh.  Certainly a nice day for sweating it out on those twisty, stoney roads. Lol
Theres a groove in the axle on left side just before the end, but no hole in the nut side on the right. Without the axle fully home on the left, it wouldnt pertrude enough to get the nut proper done up like. I did it up to FT then torqued it to 105nm as per heinz.
Groovy !  Not sure what you mean really, does the axle head slot into a groove ?   Anyhoos sounds like there's not much you can do to change it.
Nope, there is a small groove in the axle just in front of the axle head. Tbf, I've just put it back in as it came out! With grease of course.

Yeah  green up the middle in places & still had 2 bars on the fuel gauge when I got back. I reckon that's 6 hrs of entertainment for £14ish :good:

do ya know if Metmachex  utilised the existing TDM axle?  If they did there may be a hole in the end to accept a P clip or split pin.  I decided to retrofit a 3VD axle, castellated nut and P clip to my 4TX simply because it makes setting up the Scottoiler bracket that is slid onto the axle easier and it makes the boike go faster.
