Enjoy it Lee, I am officially jealous! :good:

My retirement plans involve the grim reaper as far as I can tell..... Huh

Current toys: '99 XT600E, 2000 4TX, '82 Princess 30DS (where the username comes from), No longer a '03 Fazer thou.

Save the planet, it's the only one with beer!
I am in the middle of discussions with my work in reducing working days from 4 to 3 for two years as I will have reached 60 in march , I get a rolling day off each week so they will tack on another day off, son and daughter thought they were getting a steady baby sitter, HAH ,I have my own plans .

Enjoy your retirement Lee but don't eat to much cake :cake eating: the pounds are harder to come off the older you get :hide:

Enjoy Lee.

Same age as you but can't afford to give it up yet, also jealous.

2002 TDM900 Yellow
I have plenty of projects planned to keep me busy. No lounging in front of TV for me, I haven't had one for years.

My favourite place will be in front of the lathe or miller.

The Niner is up and running with upgraded lighting and lithium battery, just awaiting mot.

My intention is to have regular ride outs to places, sharing time with the RE Classic 500.

I have plans to convert the van into sort of motor home with tools/bike in for longer trips abroad, taking the smaller in length, weight and height, but much slower RE in the back.

Park up for a few days and explore local roads and sights, without the weight of luggage. Move to next place, repeat until you want to go home.

I can carry more kit that way and camp in relative comfort. My right knee can't do ground camping comfortably these days.

The van is short wheel base (4.9m) low roof, so can park in normal car park spaces as a daily driver.

It's also cheaper on ferry than towing a trailer with a bike on which is harder to secure.

A motorhome isn't really a practical  choice for me, as apart from the cost, I still need the van, as a van occasionally, for other little jobs.

Other than the water tank which is boxed in, the living arrangements will be made demountable.

I only need one big vehicle on the road, due to parking and costs.

I plan to live on top of the van in a hard shell pop up roof tent arrangement, much like the 4x4 crews.

Having a full tool kit available, should take care of any issues that arise with the RE or the van.

I'll still be doing longer rides to places like the Picos de Europa (booked for September) and  areas in France entirely by TDM and using hotels.

Been planning this carefully for over 18 months, after coming back from Spain July 2018, slowly amassing kit like water tank, compressor fridge, lightweight alloy bike ramps etc.

Er, doesn't sound like you'll have much time for the workshop then Lee Lol

Welcome to the club! I was made redundant just over 2 years ago and decided to retire. I find I have more time to chill. I'm still a grumpy old git though!!

Enjoy.

Well things seem to irritate us more. I'll still have plenty workshop time. Just outside house. I can sit and watch the 9-5 ers battle it out on the road.  Smile

Me house on top will look something like this.

Nice one Lee! You taking in visiting carpedians whilst on their travels? You could be the European Support Module!
Lock onto my co-ordinates and beam me up !!

04 900 - 92 mk 1 - r 1150 rs - Z550 A1 - 2x bonnies - plastic slug -XL185 - ...not in that order !! (and one or two i don't want / dare to own up to !!)
So if you all do RTT round Europe ride for three weeks, I'll be following along with tools, spares, CAKE :cake eating: , tea/coffee, grub etc, to pick up the failed, crashed and fallen. Is that the idea ?

I may camp out in AliG's garden for a North of the Border Fettle. Some TDM'ers have another bike on the side these days. Royal Enfield Himalayan's are getting popular with some.

As requested pictures of shiny bits, AliG's shiny bits.
Quote:As requested pictures of shiny bits, AliG's shiny bits.

Oooh. The first proper shiny bits for my Himalayan. I dropped it on the first day out and bent the handlebars, so replaced them with a set of Yamaha ones I had lying around. Lee got the unenviable job of making me some custom ones. They will be unique, cos he says he aint making any more. Apparently, getting the taper on stainless was "tricky".
2004 900 - Blue with lots of goodies

2012 900 - Still adding shiny bits. Was black, changed to white and now back to black again.

it's holding them to put the M16x1.5 thread on that's hard, but I had a light bulb moment in the bath last night and think I've solved it.

Make an alloy taper block to hold it with parallel milled sides, with the same 5 degree taper angle.

Use the M8 thread to draw it into the taper, cut the big thread in vice, knock it out with a brass drift.

I use the 16mm unthreaded part to hold in a collect chuck to turn the taper.

Making the block only makes sense if I made a few more of them.

Lol Well Mr Henty, those vise jaws are a disgrace.

ain't mine, they belonged to the Master. Very old, needs a repaint. He had the same vice all his life, ever since I were a nipper. He bought it secondhand in early 60's.

Must admit mine ain't much better. Lol

that vise looks good as it is.  you can see the hard work it and The Master endured.
