Yamaha New Releases At Eicma, Milan.
Just been watching the Yamaha new model release in Milan. Only one bike interested me but another caught my eye...

I've been waiting for the release of the T7 700 twin adventure bike as it seems like a potential replacement for the TDM. The older I get the dirtier I become, it seems.

Anyhoo, I started watching at 55mins or so, T7, S10 and the Niken!

The first 55mins is unknown to me.

Oh, Valentino rates the Niken. Mental thing! Right up there with Nick Sanders on the S10...

The Niken, I don't get it really and I don't think too many others will either. The Tenere 700, when it stopped moving, looked just a little too off-road focused, meaning: small tank, narrow seat, huge front wheel. I guess because Yamaha believe the MT07 Tracer covered the middle ground, they've made it a more dedicated dirt model. Shame really.

I loved the CP2 engine when I rode one, but thought the Tracer itself looked cheap. I dunno? Nothing really grabs me, apart from the XSR700, I do really like that a lot. As matter of fact Chris Scott has one of them now that he's turning into a dual sport.

Now I'm reading that Nick Sanders is globetrotting on a MT07 Tracer. Now this I must follow.

A better video of Nick. Blimey, I'm envious.

The old 600 Teneres looked and went off road really well but still was fab on the road, the last 660 was really off roady but good on the road too, most KTM enduros are really good off road and they run rings around many bikes on the road. No reason why the new Ten shouldn't be the same. They spent too much time, money and effort on it to limit their customer base to those who only trash the thing around the countryside. There are more suitable bikes for that.

And did I really write the word fab above? Cringe.

I for one can't wait for it to come out for test riding. Wifey likes the look and that paves the road for me.

lololol......

I do think the MT-07 tracer could be for me but it's just the wrong side of 'Transformers' styling to really make me buy it

T7 ? Yeah okay, I'ld give it a go Smile

Just found out KTM have got a 790cc parallel twin coming put next year. 103 bhp @ 9k rpm and 63 ft lbs of torque @ 8k. Nice.

The KTM will be mentally good fun! Who'd have thunk that Yamaha were onto something with their crossplane twin back in '96?

If we had a like button I would be pressing...

Recognising that I'm turning into a dirty old perv rather than a dirty middle aged perv I've been checking out the BMW, KTM and the T7.

The bimmer has gained weight, emissions regs, tubeless spoked rims, fancy electrickery etc. It weighs about the same as an Africa Twin, 230kgish.. The KTM is expected to be about 180kg and the T7 about 200kg.

The Bimmer and KTM will be about 100hp, give or take, the T7 should stay about 75hp but with a better bottom end and mid range than the rest of the MT07 range. Probably the biggest fuel capacity, too, but that's just my speculation.

Having ridden an F650GS (800 twin) at the weekend, bland and likes to tuck the front in the loose, and have friends who throw money at their KTM's to keep them on the road, I'm still firmly in the Yamaha camp.

Oh, major caveat, the Bimmer is the only one you can buy soon. KTM and Yamaha look a year or so out. I also reckon that Yamaha will give us 2 bikes. A soft traditional bike and a woohoo version.

Yeah, I'm with you Harvey. Yamaha reliability is a big factor and as Dandy points out, they've been building these twins for decades. And honestly, the CR2 is so grunty anyway and has all the good characteristics of the TDM in a smaller, lighter package. And people just don't seem to gel with the BMW in the reports I've read. But I bet that KTM is fun while it's going.

Yup, the KTM looks focused....

That kind of shenanigans is a bit beyond me on a big bike. Will stick to my wee trials bike and CRM for air space.

Here you go. It's really for off road but I really like it.

Ditto.

I'm planning on doing some "off seal" touring in the South Island at some point. There are some epic 4wd "roads" and I've always fancied exploring the mountains on a bike with a fly rod handy for a few casts. The TDM spends a third of it's life on gravel but is a tad portly when it gets tricky.

It's funny that I started riding trail bikes and am coming full circle, the shed is full of off road bikes again. Don't fancy a single for 2000km+ rides, the twins take some beating and I'm lairy of the premium price and reliability record of Euro brands.

Oh, and getting parts for them down here can be difficult.

G'day HK, departing for the land of the Long White Cloud  Cloud9 again this Thursday to tour the South Island   ( http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/ma...u.1263431/ )   til 4 Dec. Riding a borrowed DR650.

Not quite the same as the TDM's "long white cloud" of the Flinders Ranges, but hey it's a bike & I'm gunna be on it.     :yeahbaby:
