Made & painted some new (better), mounting brackets for my wintertime auxiliary lamps. While the paint dried, I had a ride out on the bike to buy some chain lube. Took the long way home, shaving the edge off my boots on this lovely sunny day, covering just over 50 smiles instead of 8 miles. :good:

Thanks for the congrats
I've only managed 8000 in 20mths because I did about 4000 on the 850's while the 9er sat unused for a while.
The past couple of months Ive had a lot more fun on the 17" front wheel and the remapped ECU and want to get many more miles in.
jjust planning a top end inspection and new cam chain.....might be looking for the valve shim kit soon
A couple of hundred miles, to Hamilton, Glasgow, Dumbarton, Loch Lomond, Rest and Be Thankful, Tyndrum (lunch at the Green Welly), returning via Crianlarich, Crieff and Perthshire.
Â
Around Loch Lomond I came across a couple of BMW chaps, one on a K1600 and his mate behind on the 1200GS. The TDM was not put to shame, though I think the rider skill level was a factor, given the amount of unused rubber at he sides of their tyres, and the roads being wet in places, meaning that it's the tyres which become the deciding factor.
Â
Wore a new pair of RST Adventure 2 boots, which are comfy and warm, but when you have big calves like me then the velcro at the top only just comfortably meshes.
Â
I need to get some warm trousers, my lined leathers are comfy, but my legs were really cold by the time I got home. I might try some textile wans. Looking for warm and waterproof
Â
Still finding the Michelin PR3's to be a good investment , given their good stickfastedness
Adjusted & greased chain, adjusted head race bearing bearings (but could still take a knock or two on the nuts, apparently) before going to work.Â
Freaking cold, so put on muffs today. Guess I'll bite the grass one day soon, now. A good MC autumn, though, not often season extends into november.
the oil leak from somewhere under is getting worse, just don't know what to do about it. Maybe look for a replacement engine, as it's got 110kkms on the clock now......
Brace yourselves, I rode it! I was a little concerned I may have lost the ability it's been that long since I got a leg over, er, put a leg over.
I also had to let a mate get his leg over, too. Bugger insisted I ride his bike, a 9348km old BMW F650GS, the 800 twin.. Whats with that?
Anyhoo, I really liked the bimmer. Would I buy one? No.
Very agile, quick enough, seat by Stanley, Teutonic character. What gear am I in? What revs? What happens when I open the throttle? Ok, first rides are often like this. The bike is a worthy contender in only one way. It's really flickable, felt like a toy actually, it's so light in comparison.
Â
The ride highlighted how good my old 8fiddly is. Better brakes, better throttle feel, more grunt and better bottom end fueling, and, amazingly, better on gravel. I had the 19" 110 / 80 bimmer front wash out 3 times much to my surprise. Even had to put in a small dab. The TDM does not move in the same circumstances. The bimmer is on Metzeler Tourance and the TDM Bridgestone T30's... Go figure.
Â
Even my mate said at journeys end he would not replace the TDM for the bimmer, their is very little improvement to justify it.
We are blessed..
Â
All those who read this, thank you. It's been eons since I had a good day out on the bike, I'm a bloody muppet. My priorities are arse up.
TDM 850 Loud and unusual. CRM 250r Woo hoo! DT 230 Lanza Fiddled with.... Bloody hell, is that legal? GG Randonee AKA "I didn't think that was possible".
The pin is too long but not problematic, the spring is not as good a fit as the originals so I reused the originals...but they seem reasonable quality at the price
I just replaced the rubbers on mine, but those were actually cheaper.
