Finally fitted my crash bars after much head scratching due the previous owner rounding the Allen bolts, look great and offer protection,

Also fitted Renthal bars with risers tapped to take original end weights, an accessory socket and a charging point for the old girl when laid up.

Just need to ride her now to see how she feels. Thanks for all the advice re getting the old engine mount bolts out, had to grind them square then use a wheel nut remover hammered on to get them out, New bolts fitted-torqued up and the jobs a good un Wink
Rockeye did you tap them yourself, if so what size tap was it please, know it's a biggie..need to do mine at some point.

I did Dablik,

The tap size you need is M16 x 1.5 and drill size 14.5mm.

I got a tap delivered in three days from EBay for £7.95 as opposed to £20-30 on the high street. I live in Chester so if your nearby I'm happy to lend you my tap or pop round and do it here, only takes a few minutes.

Not ridden her yet due work but the extra width and feel with Rentals and risers feels like different bike.
That's a nice offer rockeye, will be off in 3 weeks for a fortnight so i'll try and remember and take you up on your offer, only in Liverpool, not currently using the bike as it's off the road but may as well get the job done while i can.......thanks, will pm if that's okay :good:

Yes no problem at all, Drop me a line and we'll try sort something
I've done very little mileage over last 2 years due to torn shoulder muscle .(old drinking injury).

I started to get all the little jobs done and found that  battery wouldn't hold a charge. Really pissed me off because I thought I'd only bought it before injury. Checked my notes and found that I had installed it in very early '07.

Don't mess around and rang MDS to order a new one. £50 +10 pandP. .

Gave me £10 Carpe discount, so I'm Happy

Finally managed to get 20w H3 bulbs for my DRl's. Now using 40w instead of 110w.

Look the same from out front of bike.

Anyone know where to buy those thingamebobs that vary light up and down? Almost make it look like they are flashing

I think you mean the Bikevis podmod? On the Bikevis website, might only work with their lights though.

I've made my own, if you're handy with a sodlering iron I'll post up the design.....need to be able to program a Microchip PIC too but I can probably do that for ya

Filled up the old cow. 4,2l/100km or 67,2 mpg isn't too bad - considering 67% touring / 33% commuting.

Would a pulse width modulator do the job? You can buy ready made ones for a few quid.
1992 Mk1, 76k miles, Hagon springs, MTC exhaust, 4½ gears Gone now Sad

2009 900 abs, 42k miles, Yamaha heated grips, double bubble screen, R&G crash bungs, scottoiler, Autocom, 1500 lumen LED spotlights.

I probably could, Maybe I should post a couple of samples out to get opinions ? The system I have uses mixed frequencies which interact, to produce a flicker with a regular pulse, it actually looks like bike lights used to look when the alternator or dynamo could barely cope and the lights flickered all the time !

I'm back home next week and will look into it. I have also thought about integrating a foglight function, with an output for extra LED's at the rear plus bringing on the brake light at 30% brightness to enhance rear end visibility (thats a copy of someone else's idea which works well)

A headlight modulator is more common in north America and many commercial ready to use modules are available there.

Afaik it's not legal in Europe to have the headlight with such a varying intensity device.

It's not very difficult to make your own : http://www.buchanan1.net/nother_mod.html

No µP programming required.

You're right of course non uP solutions exist. I would not recommend headlight modulators for UK use, highly illegal.

Flickering add-on leds is likely to be less controversial however.

Hehehe no µ on the English keyboard !

Makes reading some us/uk sites a little weird as most non-professional writers use "m" instead of "u" as a replacement character...

Great time reading capacitor values !

Yeah the good old 555 is cool, but using some µP to blink a led is fun too.  Wink

Samsung phone, so only has ųűůūüûúù!

The most eye catching flicker rate is about 15-17 Hz .... not workable really with slow response filament bulbs, only leds

A venerable 555 would do too. micros cost 50p and offer other options though

No µ key on the French Android keyboard either.

On an English PC keyboard you can get it by using ALT+0181.

In theory it would work great, BUT, the frequency of operation needs to be adjustable and suitably slow.

If you want to flash an led at 15Hz,no off the shelf brightness or motor speed controllers run at such low frequencies, so it would require modification.

I spoke with a manufacturer of a brake light modulator last year regarding my coloured dancing pattern disco hand guards with indicators last year (vid below) and they were not interested in marketing anything which caused front lights to flicker, flash or change colour. Since then I've found that the law is not completely watertight, and if the light flickers down to 40% brightness instead of completely off then they are, technically speaking, not considered to be flashing on and off.  No test cases have gone through courts yet though !

From the work I did i found that the very best effect is when there are two leds, one each side of the bike, and they flicker alternately side to side at 16 or 17Hz....the eye's ability to recognise movement is triggered by the perceived change in position of the light source, which is very noticeable and attention grabbing  in your peripheral vision
