20+ Forums - Really Desireable ?
Traffic is going down, so it seems. Is it really a good idea to keep all these different forums when there are actually more forums than posts any given day (at least in the Winter season).

I have to scroll forum page to see them all.

I just use the view new content button, no need to select the forums then

<del>1999 Gilera Runner 125SP</del>, <del>2002 Piaggio X9 250</del>, <del>2004 Bandit 600</del>, 2005 TDM 900, <del>2007 Honda CB1300S</del>, <del>2008 Tiger 1050, </del>1996 Triumph Sprint 900, 2006 Tiger 955i, 2018 Triumph Tiger Sport,  2023 Triumph Tiger 900, XJR1300, 2011 (2009) TDM 900,

Farkles - Laser Duo Techs, MTC Stainless Exhausts, Laser Duo Techs, Power Commander and custom map, Tenere 1200 Handguards, Yamaha Heated Grips, MRA Vario screen, SW Motech Alurack,  Givi and Hepco and Becker top boxes, Givi Engine bars, Garmin Zumo XT

+1
that's all i do and set it for "by 24 hours"

"As I Lay Rubber down to street, I pray for traction I can keep. But if I skid and begin to slide, please dear god protect my ride"

Mods; Oil pressure switch, neoprene rear inner mudguard, scottoiler, highway pegs,  fenda extenda, 1999 carbs and airbox, Kais suspension setup, later clutch springs, LED lamps, Metmachex swingarm, Hagon Shock, Oxford heated grips, 4 way fused accessory Bus, 17" 3CV front wheel, Michellin R6 tyres, GPS speedo, 5' ignition advance.
...but otoh, what's the point with a forum that's either effectively dead or being posted to once every x months ?

What, you mean like the admin forum ? Lol  Forums are there for members to use, as are the blog, gallery and chat facility.  All of which don't get used often.  We have the same forums now as we had when you joined so not sure why you suddenly want us to change it all.
Just set your forum check to 'Content I have not read' works for me :good:

For a challenging summer try the

Round Britain Rally.....

1993 TDM 850 Mk1 ..... 2008 TDM 900 ....  1975, 1979, 1982, 1992 Goldwings, Scott, AJS,  Triumph 5TA
We could prolly zap a few sub forums loike rtt and the thunder Doon under wan as they haven't been held for a few years but they aint doin no harm there at the mo ... Once you have found the "new content" option hey bjorgey ;-)
Doin valve clearances? Use dappers valve shim exchange program and the job will be carroty - Free (other than you postin me yer shims) for sporting members.

That's the one I use. You can always look for things as you want them via the actual forum then.

I'm a system developer having a somewhat low-intensity period at work. That's prolly why I managed to think about this for more than a few msecs every time I hit the opening page... Tongue

...just dislike unused features as they confuse more than they serve a purpose. The "Other languages", for instance - there are other TDM forums out there in other languages, and this one is apparently dead.

Forums with the first screen covered by pinned topics also make them less readable...

Well, just my 2p...I'll leave it here.

And - thanks for the tech tip "Wiew new content", everyone. This makes all of Carpe to appear as one forum, a really good idea  :pimp:

Just because the forums aren't posted in, doesn't necesarily mean they're not being used though Bjorge.  The only options would be to lock the forum, which is basically the same as leaving an unused forum as is, or delete the forum and all posts within it. Or, as Dappers suggested merge some sub-forums.  All of which would prolly save you a few clicks of yer mouse or hitting the pg dn button.

Personally, I like some structure to forums as they're easier to navigate, plus it only takes a minute to scroll through the homepage to see the darker coloured icons denoting unread topics.  That said, being an admin I do use the forum a lot more than most so it's always good to hear peeps views on the site. Smile
