What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today?
Yes I'm curious to know too

Well, I won't get the shock installed until tomorrow, but it came today :badgerrock:

It will probably be a couple weeks after that before I feel like messing with the forks again and the springs and fresh oil will go in then.

Washed the Monday night Dover to Durham P down filth off it & applied FS365 liberally.

Morning everyone, thanks for your interest and support.

Rode the redhead to work yesterday. Oh joy, such a wonderful machine. Feel kinda bad I'm not riding the other 2 bikes(012 vstrom/83 goldwing) but it is what it is.

Gonna have to do a slight alignment of the fork, as it's not perfect. I have mild Ocd,and it's gotta be perfect.

Didn't mention I installed a new handlebar also,

ProTaper Evo Adventure profile. Beautiful kit, feels completely natural. Ride safe everyone.

Shoehorned the mk1 engine back into the frame, connected the chain and clutch cable and then called it a day.

Now at least i can potter about here and there connecting everything back up  Smile

My bars (Renthal 455) aren't perfectly aligned.  Best I can tell, one of the risers must have a slight bend in it.  I tried twisting, but it isn't budging.  I don't really notice it, but if I could find replacement risers I would probably swap it out.

I had a DL1000 (2005) previously, and I wouldn't go back from the TDM.  The newer Stroms seem quite a bit nicer though.
Hey there g650xtdm, thanks for chiming in.

I could probably leave the alignment as is(very minor) but "the power of christ compels me". Not religious I am, , things like that just bug me.

The Vstrom,DL650A is a stone reliable horse. The P.O. did a great job of the break-in. Doesn't use a drop of oil.😆

But still making payments.🤐 So i have to live with it for a while.
Fired up the mk1 engine after connecting it up...well, it fired up with fuel poured down the carbs, but doesn't want to run with fuel through the carbs as it should do....but then I flattened the battery so it's on charge for tonight.....hoping for a continuous run tomorrow

Fingers crossed for ya bud.  Might need the carbs setting up eh ?

Maybe.

I took the float bowl off the right carb and it's clean. Used an ekectric fuel pump and it filled well and stopped when full. Might be a tiny bit of crud in the jets i suppose.....

The mk1 runs again  !!!

A good spray with Easy Start (ether is it ?)    and jump leads to my car, took a minute or so but then it burst into life.

Now it starts absolutely on the button and immediately settles to idle

Need to put the radiator on it and fill with coolant......but it looks like i can keep on building, maybe a ride this weekend ? Smile

Got the rear Hyperpro shock fitted.  Thankfully, even with 40K miles, nothing was seized during removal like I've read a lot of TDMers have had to deal with it.  I'm starting to think you guys treat the roads there in the UK with Sulphuric Acid!

I didn't make any adjustments, although preload should have been preset.  I didn't verify the sag.  It was a nice improvement over the old shock, but nothing dramatic.  I would have liked to have been amazed, but I was never disappointed in how the bike handled, so I'm not surprised the new shock wasn't a massive difference.  Much more composed and it made it apparent how little damping the old shock had left.

Like many I have read about that replaced the rear shock, it does make the shortcomings of the forks more apparent.  So I will likely replace the springs and fluid sooner rather than later.

Long idle test ....no leaks....so pushed on with putting the bodywork back on.
