Inspected and greased up rear shock linkage with some help from ChrisR at Ali's fettle day. Everything slid out and in very nicely it did sir. Ooh. Probably be some photos put up on that thread later.

While you were doing that Arthur, I went out for a peregrination....and on the other side of Edinburgh got chatting to a biker and his partner who parked in a popular spot, to find he came from a few miles from my house !.....and then I headed home, got to the end of my street and just carried on in the opposite direction for another half hour, having so much fun and slowly finding my confidence with this bike.
Bugs! Must be Spring! I rarely get any time for my TDM these days, my old man has been ill and running his business has taken all my spare time, can't wait for the long summer nights, spend some time with my girl, late dinners and the old TDM...

Id have powder coated them but I was not sure on the look oh and I am impatient, IF they don't last I may get them done, but more like not able to part with the cash as being a tight git so just paint them again a mate is getting a frame done in a few weeks, shame I could not wait to slip them in the box...lol

Did you prime these? Wondered if there would be any reaction with the alloy and maybe needed an etching primer. I too was admiring latestarters powder coatedhangers today, but yours seems like a simple solution.

2004 900 - Blue with lots of goodies
2012 900 - Still adding shiny bits. Was black, changed to white and now back to black again.
After another winter under a coating of ACF50, it was time for a thorough wash, polish and lube. Not looking bad for a 13 years old bike with 82k miles on it.
Ali and ProudViking, no primer, but a good degrease, did not key it, the satin black I have is a quality suff, pre heated the hangers and the paint so fast dry and normally holds up very well to ware and tear, I've sprayed loads of alloy parts in the same way over the years, will take a pic next year haha.. Â Tbh I am not a massive lover of powder coat for a few reasons, hard to remove, chips, moisture and corrosion under the coating and so on, not saying its bad just I have no problem with paint, oh and its cheaper

Time will tell, without scratch testing them it's hard to say what Mr Yamaha has coated them with, some kind of clear coat.

Not wrong, as I said I have alloy parts here that have been good for over 10 years, if it were the frame I'd go the extra mile, but a couple of hangers, also the OEM coating remains as an undercoat ... given the location of them no matter what you use they will suffer some ware and tear, I'm happy, looks ten times better IMO, the other guy on here who powder coated his (did try and find the pics) also look great.
On a side note the local guys to me are expensive for powder coat, I'd guess 60 notes to coat them plus VAT and a week or so wait.

Recently I've been investigating portable powder coating equipment.... for less than £200 you cab get all you need to diy, for parts which are small enough to cure in your kitchen oven
Bloody good idea Stan, if I had it I'd prob use the death out of it, not sure how the old oven would fair
