Some may recognise who's bike this used to belong to, the clue is in the amount of filth its' covered in.  Hoping to get her cleaned up before the G2G, only 3 months so might be pushing it !Â
Â
Also got Wicky's spare mk1 engine, a spare mk1 gearbox, set of wheels, new engine guards and a boat load of other TDM goodies.
Â
It's a pet project kinda purchase, 3rd gear slips so it'll need the gearbox replacing. That said, I'm hoping to use the bike until winter and then do the work. Fires up on the button, a bit spluttery to start but she's got plenty of pull and prolly just needs a decent run and/or some fine tuning of the carbs.

Be nice to see you on two wheels again Studley :good:
Â
Been hanging on to your old Mk2A in case you wanted her back, but maybe time to let her go now........I need some room in my garage for later on this yearÂ
I did give it a lot of thought Mick, then thought I'd go for a 9'er but when the mk1 came up I couldn't resist really. :blush2:Â Â I thought 'the boy' was going to have the mk2a ?
Boy has got to pass his test first  Studley - even then, I think the 650 X Country will sit him better, especially now its got a new screen, pannier racks & scottoiler - got the makings of a good adventure tourer now :good:
Â
Next East Midlands breakfast meet is Saturday 28th March - but at the Haven on the A52, as Nottingham have the road dug up outside Cafe Hockley

She's not been ridden for a few weeks, probably needs a good long run to clear out the cobwebs! :good:
Â
And as for needing a good clean... well I never was very good at cleaning, just like to give them the odd wipe over with an oily rag. :hide:

Yup, Sidey's right Alun, I wasn't referring to you.
Â
I'm sure you're right about it not having been run for a few weeks. I only rode it for a few hundred yards so no surprises it didn't clear it's throat. Gonna get her taxed next week and then see how she goes on a decent run. :good:
Commuted to work yesterday as the fuel pump of my old BMW seems to have given up. No worries, it`s entitled to some worn out components after 325,000km
Today I checked the valves of my XT 608 1000km after the engine rebuild. Oil was changed last week. (Yes it*s a 608 now and boy have I fallen in love again. New piston, new intake rubbers, valve job, new Wilbers shock, 15W fork oil, new Michelin Anakee III, new brake fluid... result: a s**tload of fun. I can now pass riders that are younger than the XT ;D )
And I*m going to swap the TDM's headlight assembly for a new used one, and tear the old one apart to check, why the low beam wobbles about. I believe the beam adjusting thingy broke.
Tomorrow there will be a little suspension fettling day at my place with some members of the German TDM forum.
I have finished repainting my niner. When I got it, it already had a scuff on the offside front fairing and I was never a huge fan of the blue/grey combination and always fancied a white bike. Having checked out the options, I decided on white side panels, black cowl and front mudguard. I didn't fancy painting the tank, so decided on a baglux cover and having bought the grey one from Big Dave, I researched vinyl dyes and dyed it black. According to all the blurb, the difference between vinyl dye and vinyl paint, is that the dye seeps into the pores of the vinyl rather than sitting on top like paint and I have to say that I am delighted with the finish. They also claim that the finish is permanent and will not rub off. Time will tell. It looks like new and was very easy. It would be an easy solution to anyone who has the red seat and wants it black. The pictures speak for themselves and I have included the before pics for comparison.
I am waiting on the tank decals to finish the job. I am getting those on the later white niners (like Catsbum's was) and I it should finish the job really well. I don't have a compressor, so this was done using Autotek aerosols, but I did use grey plastic primer and spent a lot of time rubbing down between coats.
Still need to do the bottom suspension bush and have my valves checked and those are planned for the fettle day next month.

2004 900 - Blue with lots of goodies
2012 900 - Still adding shiny bits. Was black, changed to white and now back to black again.
I fitted my handguards and pair of Pirelli Angel GT . Great tyre , a lot of grip and very neutral . I did today first 500 km with them and I am very satisfy with everything.
