Dunno about you, but I'd always thought of the old Duke of Wellington as a rather dry, crusty, poker-faced individual stiff upper lip and all that

However, on a recent National Trust stately home visit, I found the attached beauty of a letter which put him in a new light and gave some idea of why he was popular with his troops:

Accounting for equipment in my platoon always seemed such a waste of time that could have been better spent on training.

I'm still not sure why I was not charged for not returning all the toilet paper we were issued.
