That was pure luck, up until I spotted the one I bought the cheapest I could find was on Amazon for $139.99 but the company would not ship internationally ( I was nearly going to get it sent to the company my wife work at US address then forwarded here).

There were a few for $189 on ebay.com that would ship, but just on a random search I found one at Ohio Honda all in £92 shipped USPS so 14 days but it was the only one.

Mine arrived today from sunny Ohio <img src='http://www.carpe-tdm.net/ipb/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> and I knew I would more than likely have to pay Duty on it but was not expecting to have to pay the Post Office an additional£8.00 not to deliver it to me <img src='http://www.carpe-tdm.net/ipb/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ranting.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.carpe-tdm.net/ipb/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/punishment.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':punishment:' /> so add an addition £24 to the £92 still works out the cheapest I have seen to date.

looks like I may be busy in the garage tonight.

Well thanks to AzzA's excellent instructions I have managed to install the Dobeck TFI in less than 30 mins. Tuning the box was a bit of a faff at first but I think I have it close, but a test ride is needed to finalize that wont get that opportunity until Monday at the earliest .

I have attached a pictuce of the setting I have prelimanarly got do they look right to those that have fitted the TFI.

Also took a small video of the LEDs on the Dobeck

G'day TAM,

Looks like you've done everything the correct way; Dobeck say you should be able to tune between 2&4 o'clock, and it looks like you've got just shy of 3... which is about where mine is.

Can't say I'd like to be doing your test ride, given the season, but all the best and I hope it is everything you're hoping for. It was 42 degrees C here the other day.... too hot to ride too; the fecking roads melt!

We're planning a GOR ride for Monday, but shifted plans to Tuesday; as it will be cooler and hopefully less tourists. One way, then overnight stay and back the next day with some inland deviations through the Otway ranges.

(Great Ocean Road.... Google this one, it's highly rated, and if ever any of you visit Oz put it on your list of things to do and see)

We dont have that problem over here, we just have to avoid all the potholes and craters that make up our road system that we paid £9 billion in taxes for!!!!!!!

Hope you have fun on your ride out. Hoping to feel the improvements to the fueling on mine on the commute to work tomorrow, even if its cold and wet.

Update on my Dobeck TFI install.

I had chance today on the commute to work to try the Dobeck TFI out. At first I did not really notice anything new but I start my commute on a twisty A road.

However the moment I got into traffic and negotiated a couple of round-abouts that is were I did start to notice the improvement. Almost gone is the On-Off-On snatchy throttle, there is now a nice almost smooth usable power from 1800 rpm, 14mph in 2nd gear or 18mph in 3rd gear, right the way through the rev range. I can also hold a steady throttle between 2500 and 3500rpm without it hunting like it used to.

I still think my setting need a small tweak as I think I am now a tad rich on the Green section, but a great start so far.

Nice one - this is a great thread and goes to prove that aftermarket compooters make the TDM a better machine to ride............................

Thanks for the useful feedback. I have the same model TDM as you. Let us know how it goes after a few more days/different riding conditions and when you have done the tweaks (I am still not convinced when you say "almost gone" ). If you are absolutely sure that it is working then I can place my order.

Doubting Thomas.

When I say almost gone I am sure I will be able to adjust them out just may take a bit of tweaking of the TFI, but considering I just connected it and done the base setting within 1/2 hour .

It is excellent that it works so well with no adjustment. I look forward to hearing how it goes when you have done your adjustments.

Thanks, Tom
A lot of the easy of my installation was the likes of AzzA's detailed reporting on his installations and others that have posted there finding on here as well.

If it wasn't for the fact you live so far away Tom, I'd let you have a shot of my TDM900 so you could compaired the difference.

That is very kind of you, Tam, it is a pity you aren't closer. Still I am sure you will be posting a favourable report when you have done your fine tuning then I will have to get on to ebay and see if I can get a deal. It is a rip-off that £8.00 "handling charge" they seem to levy on stuff coming from the US.
Tom, if you want to try a TDM with this fitted I ain't far away - near Brands Hatch in Kent.

Cheers

Nick
Alright Brain, you don't like me, and I don't like you. But lets just do this, and I can get back to killing you with beer.
When I got mine installed it knocked my mpg a bit and one or two other things. I've not got it perfect yet but the best way I found of setting mine up was a dual carriage way near where I live and keeping the unit free for quick adjustment. I'd adjust as best I thought to the instructions, give it a mile of slow quick, etc., tweak it, run again, etc. and found it easier to fine tune some of the settings. I think someone else on here tried a similar approach. I'm waiting for the mpg to see if I've got things better in that department. The bike deffo feels smoother and a some rev ranges more responsive albeit by a small amount, but noticeable. It'll never be 100% perfect but that's life.
OK... it's been a while since I revisited this thread, but... I've just now done some updates on the first posting; to try and bring as much of the information into the one place on the first page.

Hello AzzA!

Thanks for excellent detailed descriptions, but I can't see the pictures, are they gone ?

Yes, but only for now, the FileDen site tanked all my photos... I need to edit the page and put the photos on Carpe, which is now possible thanks to the great folk on our admin... it won't happen overnight but it will happen. I was hoping FileDen would get their act together but they've failed to do so and they don't answer emails.

It's winter here now, so I'll be on it soon; there's feck all daylight to do much else. Big Grin

OK... it happened overnight; I had to wait for dinner... please let me know if any are missing and where.

Looks like it's OK now, thanks, mate!
