Lone Wolf Rider
Had one as a loaner when I had my TDM serviced (it was still in warranty when I got it), as Rob said they're quite buzzy, felt like I was rising round on a wasp. Nice and smooth ride around town at low revs but you really need to rev the nuts off it on the open road. Acceleration wise it was pretty similar to the TDM I reckon. Recomend you try and get a decent length test ride to see if it's for you or not.

The first Fazer's were better, wider spread of torque on the early ones and not as peaky.

But you've got to get used to the double Rpm.

Is loud, you do not need horn.

The position on the seat is worse.

You drive shorter distances than the TDM.

It has ABS?



You Look at the newer models of TDM.

You're better than the TDM built in 2002.

You have better suspension than the old models, better fuel injection and ABS.

Not, but it's done over 110000 miles now so just looking to the future.

Swmbo doesn't come out with me very often any more so I don't need the torque.

TBH I'd love another 9er but I know if I get one they'll release a new model or something.

Also the marque could do with a complete overhaul, If I was going to get another one I might as well save the money and just upgrade mine.

Oh I see, that's a fair mileage mate! Well after all these years of not owning a TDM I guess like others Im just discovering how good it is and what good value for money compared with many others on today's market, if you love it that much why not buy another new one? At least you know it inside out and can continue your love affair with the old/new TDM900.



Even now having ride just about all of the current range of bikes through my workshop, mates and demo rides I still rate the TDM highly I did sort the fueling on mine with a PC, airbox and some pipes and she's good to go, fixed all the bugs before they start and hope to have a 100,000 miles plus trouble free ish riding like you...



Be interesting what you pic and how you rate it over the TDM, not that I'm out to change but you'd know more than most how good the competition stacks up, as for new models well I guess better bikes will always be on the horizon but I guess the big question is always how much are they and how reliable are they in the real world being ridden by someone like you who stacks up the miles...

It's not a new Niner of 2002.



A new Niner of 2009 or younger is already an enhanced model and runs better.

will you like a high revving four banger ? buzzzzzz compared to the rumble of your TDM ? As they say the older carby models were better for overall use.

Just buy a newer TDM you know it inside out and all your accessories of your old bike will fit.
'she' has a MK1 Fazer 6undred (1998) and it's an amazing boike i can tell ya. the 03 models with EFI need to be worked quite hard in comparison.

I bet the FZ6 is pretty similar, as the FZ1 got a good write up.



Mind you, you might have to upgrade the suspension, as I heard the adjustment is a bit basic on the 600's

I had one. Its a detuned R6 engine and quite revvy but that is what it was designed to do. They do anything. Said before I went from Carlisle to Aldershot on it. The rain started at Shap, the heavens opened at Brum & it stopped raining as I reached the M25. It never faltered. Pretty much the same on the way back. The longer you own one the more you want to rev it. I loved the two pipes poking out under the seat but it limits the use of soft panniers a bit. So Im told anyway. I never tried any.

I found it quite comfy, enough to do 300+ miles in a day. I only sold it because a really tasty Bulldog came into a dealer up here but it felt like a tractor compared to the FZ6. In an ideal world I would have liked to have had both.

They say they have no character but I disagree. Its character is telling you " give me your worst, I can take it & I wont brake down". There isnt much to rot on em either. Everything is alloy. Again I said before I saw one parked up in Belfast last year & it looked like it had never seen a bucket of soapy water in about 5 years but apart from the odd rusty bolt it would have cleaned up a treat. Plus they come with a fecking center stand. Hi Jerry. AS i have said(bored folk with) many times on ere. I love them. <img src='http://www.carpe-tdm.net/ipb/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wub' /> I think they have been my favourite bike and I doubt if I'm finished with

them completely.

The engine is the same one used in the 80's in the TR1 and the 1100 Virago so its not at the cutting edge of technology.

They red line at just over 6k if I remember correctly and I would say the top speed is just over 110 but it wasn't designed for speed. Maintenance is a doddle. No shims just 4 tappets so expect a bit of tickety tick from the engine. The carbs look a bit complicated but my two bikes never gave a hiccup in that department so I left em alone. The riding position was perfect for me. You sit in them and there was no weight on your wrists. I have an old injury on my right wrist & these are the only bikes I have had no pain with. They are heavy, bits you think should be plastic are metal but they feel sooo solid. They did 3 varients of them but because they never sold well here partly due to the press destroying them the last one with the immobiliser needed the clocks replaced because the miles section didnt light up. If you get one pm me & I will sort you out with a manual.

The forum is a German one but they ave an English section for us(if they are still going).

They are a big bike Jerry but fairly low in the middle although my feet weren't completely flat. I'm 5' 8". I never realised how big they were till I went to view my 2nd one & it was next to a MT01. They had the same bulk.

You really got to ride one because they are very old school engines. They hit the red very very quickly but they are so relaxed.

Unusual trait for a shaftie is wap it open coming out of a corner(in the dry) & the back end digs in. Feels really sure footed.

Dappers equivalent on the German site said the engine never feels like its working hard. You decide.
