I'm with Big Dave on this. From bitter experience I can say that I've never been to that area without it pissing down!
Beware the whitevanman!

I'd like to revisit Brittany - was there last year in the car and would love to go back on the bike - but I'm happy to go with the consensus on location - having missed the RTT12 I'm determined to make the RTT13.....
At risk of doing something exciting!

I'd vote for Brittany too. The advantage is that it is not too far in comparison to the Alps and also easily accessible from Ireland.
Ali
2004 900 - Blue with lots of goodies

2012 900 - Still adding shiny bits. Was black, changed to white and now back to black again.

Where's yer sense of adventure Ali ! Granted, Albertville is a fair way, and would cost more for fuel, but getting there is the bit where ya ride yer bike, and you don't have to get there in one go as it were.

Okeedokee, so we currently have 3 potential locations, all in France.

Albertville - located in the Rhone Alps. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albertville

Vosges - located in the Lorraine region. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vosges

Brittany - located in, errr, Brittany. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brittany

Monschau - located in Germany. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monschau

I dunno what other peeps think but here's a suggestion you might wanna consider/laugh yer bollox off at !

You could have a 'proper' RTT, as in, one that actually Rolled & Toured. For example, spend a few nights in the Vosges and then Thunder on down to Albertville for a few days there.
Granted it would need some planning on the hotel/accomodation side, perhaps less so fer camping bods though. But it'd cater for peeps who don't wanna travel too far and also fer peeps who do.
Anyhoos, just a thought.

Anywhere else that peeps would like to be considered ?

Why would I want to go anywhere that was easily accessible from Ireland????

Vosges area is tres joli. I camped up (if y'know what I mean) there post RTT in 2003

Every year there's a hill climb up to St Odile monastery from just outside the campsite near Barr on the D854 https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=barr+alsac...ved=0CAsQ_AUoAg

I had been having similar thoughts -

Sat/Sun = Calais > Colmar
MonTue = Vosges
Wed = Colmar > Albertville
Thur Fri = passes
Sat/Sun = Albertville > Calais> Home

I generally spend a week touring attending the core days of the RTT
XT1200Z - Big and bouncy

GTR1400 - Chaufer the wife.

XT660Z - Fun and commute.

TDM900 - Yellow.
A Full Articulated Rolling Thunder Tour sounds good to me - FARTT!

Aye, I'm biased and would plum for a Monschau RTT

But in interest of fairness I don't throw ideas in the RTT 'hat' as it is always on during school term time, and getting a week off has not been feasible.
Monschau region means depending on date I have more chance I could get over for a couple of days at least.
Done: Homo sap navigation/ twisty thing on bars to make it go vroom/ grabby thing to make it stop (in front of twisty thing)/ 'leccy things front and rear to make it glow at night/ Sucky + drippy oiler thing to keep chains moist (!!) / Laser Pro Stock Race pipes / bleeding ear drums (see previous mod)
To do: Educate homo sap nav system to operate twisty + grabby things/ get ear plugs

Isn't the RTT usually the 1st week of July? The last two haven't been, due to 2010 being at the German MTT and 2011 coinciding with some Northern Ireland rambling activities? But apart from them I though 1st week July was the norm.
