900 Air Box Mod....fantastic!
Just done the air box mod on my 2004 TDM900, see  https://www.tdm-yamaha.heliohost.org/?page=AIR

FANTASTIC!! [Image: yahoo.gif] What a result [Image: tup.gif]

The on/off low speed throttle response has all but gone, bottom end torque has increased and the engine is just so much more usable between 2000 and 3000 rpm. Fantastic...it feels like a new bike!!

If you've gotta 900 and haven't carried out option 1 referenced in the link above....do it....you won't be sorry [Image: laugh.gif][Image: laugh.gif][Image: laugh.gif]

Gone but not forgotten: 2007 TDM900ABS Competition White, datatagged, fenda extenda, tomtom rider 1, Yamaha main stand, Yamaha heated grips, HID headlights, Yamaha top box & city side cases, MRA Vario screen, CLS200 automatic chain oiler, Yamaha belly pan, DL650 handguards, Gi-Pro X gear indicator, SW-Motech Mirror Extensions, LED side light, Stebel Nautilus AIR HORN!!!!!

I agreee, I carried out the modification about a month ago, really worthwhile. Easy even for me.... [Image: rolleyes.gif]

I followed option 1, everything was exactly as described, what a pleasure to have illustrations that really work - thanks JBX! [Image: good.gif]

However, I seem to be short of a few fairing screws / rubber nut thingies / fastners by now from a mixture of clumsiness and other factors. [Image: unsure.gif] Any advice on how to best get replacements, anyone? Thanks.

I guess you chose option #1 (disconnect & plug the breather pipe) for simplicity?

Yep, and just as Sven says, the mod is just as JBX details. I was getting really hacked off with the low speed jerky throttle response but an idle search through the JBX files revealed a very welcome solution.

Hi people, just joined your happy group. I currently own 2 TDMs, the first is a 1991 850 originally owned by Peter Goddard ex World Super bike racer. It has flat slide race carbs, throttle pumpers and JMCA cans fitted. This is a fun thing to ride as it still has more compression now after 99000kms than when it was new. My other one is a 2002 900, standard other than 3 piece Nonfango hard luggage. The exhaust will be getting changed as well as looking at the airbox.
Will post some photos soon.

Cheers to all

2002 TDM900. BMW 1150gs handguards, Oxford heated grips, Staintune exhausts, airbox mod, re-moulded seat, bar risers, Powerlec adaptor, bluetooth, 2way comms, K & N filter, Nonfango hard luggage, center stand, polished alloy wheels, (I'm not gunna)crash knobs
I did option two some months back, only a pair of long nose pliers required, no parts or plastic's to remove either, by far the easiest way to do it.

Hi Sparra (Another Northerner, by chance?), , and welcome. Any pics of the 850? (Interesting pedigree, and endorsement of the TDM!)

Don't think so, using mod. route 1 - just need to block off the airbox end of the hose (I used the end plug off a ballpoint pen). Anyone else to comment?

I don't think it's necessary.
It's the hose that operates the vacuum valve, once it is disconnected and plugged you're good to go.

Yeah, right... [Image: yeahbaby.gif]

I did the modification today - method #2... Worked fine after I found a long nose pliers to replace the hose after I blocked it.

Due to heavy rain this afternoon I didn't go for a testride. Maybe tomorrow if the rain stops.

Just one question about this air box mod; have any of you experienced any kind of drawbacks afterwards...?

None that I've heard of, but today I had to fire her up twice from cold - just a sporadic glitch? - so tweaked the idling revs up a shade.
