Interesting Near Coming Together With The Law
Havent posted anything about this until now as it has just been resolved but I had an interesting one a month or so back.

I recently had an incident where a 'Traffic' PCSO rode off a pavement on a mountain bike into my path and narrowly avoided an instant Yamaha Motorcycle / Raleigh Cycle hybrid. There were two PCSO's on pushbikes on the pavement as i drew close to them, one of them looked behind and steered to pull off the kerb, i spotted this and covered the brakes (and horn). She saw me and stopped but her male colleague didnt and rode straight off into my path. I managed to swerve to avoid him and hit the trusty Steibel at same time.
He took umbrage for some reason and pulled me to the side of the road. You can imagine that I wasnt too happy at this and suggested that he might benefit from a little study of the Highway Code. He initially said that he hadnt seen me and when I said that his colleague saw me he then said that I was speeding. I was livid at this point and may have stated that i wasnt suprised they would only let him out on a pushbike. We argued for a short while when the car that was behind me turned up (he had turned at an island up the road) he stated that the copper had just ridden off the pavement without looking and that he and his wife couldnt believe i had managed to avoid him. He gave me his details and left. The copper was still having none of it and I was getting bored with arguing. I suggested that we were getting nowhere and offered to agree to disagree, shake hands and hope never to meet again - he refused so i just road off only to hear him call me a twat as i did so.

As you may imagine i seethed and seethed over this and decided that i would report it to the local nick the day after, as a result I ended up having a meeting with the copper and his sergeant in which he still insisted i was going 'way too fast'. His sergeant stated that this was no defence, if he saw me speeding then he saw me and should not have pulled out. The sergeant then produced two witness statements, one from the car behind and one from his colleague corroborating everything I had said. He now has to complete a reassessment of his cycling skills before he can go out on a bike again and has been (and this one surpised me) reported to the HSE for failing to report a dangerous incident at work (RIDDOR - near misses). Again, I offered to shake the guy's hand but he wouldnt have it - I somehow doubt that he will have a long and illuminated career supporting the local community. I am not a vindictive fella but I must admit to chuckling at the thought of him taking his cycling proficiency!!!

Incidentally, I asked what the significance of 'Traffic' on a PCSO's epaulettes meant - apparently they can issue FPN for parking in certain areas and can assist directing traffic as well.

ho hum - rant over!

That had quite a nice outcome then. Serves him right for being so arrogant really.

But I guess you could have been in a spot of bother yourself if you had no witnesses to back your story up.

I've heard of a few stories about where the police have stuck together and fabricated new scenarios to clear themselves and incriminate others.

Hopefuly this kind of behaviour isnt widespread.
Glad to hear you were vindicated there Stu. Although the copper was obviously an arrogant dick, the behaviour of the witness and the rest of the police restores a little faith.

Geat stuff!
And even better this happened to someone who thinks that wearing a uniform gives them superiority in life.
I just wish I could have been a fly on the wall at your last meeting!

FYI, this was the same exact defence that the mini-cab driver tried to use on me.
"Yes I seen him, but he was going too fast".
Whilst recovering in the Ambulance an attending PC popped his head in and said,
" I don't care if you was doing 120, he seen you, he pulled out on you, so I'm doing him for Undue care and attention".

To be honest, the PC's lucky he didn't get hospitalised. It was only your reactions that stopped that happening !

PCSO's are not coppers, they are civilians in uniform mimicking police and empowered to a degree by the Police Reform Act. They are not constables and swear no oath of office and have very limited training and therefore vetting.

Putting civilians in uniforms and asking them to act as police is a very, very bad idea in a so called democracy IMO.

same with the highways agency "traffic officers"

i know they take some of the more mundane shite (eg domestic stuff for pcsos and cone laying for HA officers) which to some extent frees up time for the normal police, but to the general public they come across as "pretend coppers" who ended up that way coz they couldnt pass the proper exams

Spot on!

Although I think they are regarded either as "apprentice fuzz" or pains in the $%^^&* by the real coppers.
IIRC they are not warranted and have the same powers of arrest as a civilian.

Well if he was from Pinellas County Sheriff's Office then he probably looked the wrong way before pulling out!!

It is excellent that the Hand-Shaking Expansion have been informed of his failure to obide by their terms and conditions and that he can be issued a Federal Part Number.

Most of all glad that you are ok!

Doin valve clearances? Use dappers valve shim exchange program and the job will be carroty - Free (other than you postin me yer shims) for sporting members.
There's a young lad I know, who used to work in my print dept.
Scrawny fella. 5 foot 8 in his heels and 9 stone dripping wet.
Used to get the back ripped out of him by everybody.
He joined the PCSO regiment because he thought he could handle the piss taking from the kids.
Unfortunatly he couldn't and ended up getting twatted round the park by a gang of them.
Best job he's ever done though apparently???? go figure...
