I was on the taxi way once when two took off .......

I remember being at the last West Malling (Kent) air show when one of them there buggars did a fly by - I think I was about 8!

They look like they're flying SO slowly when they're up close - I remember telling my dad that I thought it was going to fall out the sky.

To coin an ol' phrase - "they don't make 'em like they used to"

I know it's got its certificate to fly again, but you wanna be careful of those old birds maintained by enthusiast groups.

A number of years ago my folks were members of the support group that helped keep a certain PBY/Catalina flying boat in the air. They even won a trip in it once AGM and had a nice jolly over to Le Touquet & back.

Then about 5 years later when promoting the idea of an air festival to the bigwigs on Southampton council it suffered a failure during landing and killed the mayor. They blamed component corrosion.

I stopped by on my way home about half an hour after it happened and watched the furor from the shoreline. Very odd feeling seeing a crashed vehicle you know family members have traveled in.
Another boring night & I'm feeling pissed....
