If you like live music, get a hold of a copy of the Village Voice. Always great music in NYC. I lived just outside there for years - used to visit all the time.

Myself and the missus may go back there in the New Year.. WTC wasn't much to look at though the view from the roof was fantastic. Empire State building's OK - though the roof is caged to stop people jumping. Just walking through NYC is amazing as the scale of the building's are so vast. A walk across the Brooklyn Bridge is worthwhile, there's the port on the other side with a few cafe's and Brooklyn heights from which you can look back at the Manhatten skyline. Canal St is good for books/records and heading on up to Chelsea is good for a "chic" ish feel in NYC. MOMA is a good visit - always something interesting there. Otherwise just wandering the streets was what I found most interesting, between a few trannie's to the big guy stood outside a subway station shouting at everyone and watched by the Police to being in some "mall" and coming across an episode of Judge Judy being filmed and being asked my opinion of the case for US TV....

NYC is really good to walk all day long and enjoy the diversity.

Last time I went I particularly enjoyed the Brooklyn bridge and having tea in the Chinese area. Greenwich village has a nice feel in the evening.
I was disappointed with the Ground zero. I may have missed something but it looks like if you are not an official you don't have access to a real memorial (that was Nov 08)...and you would have thought that they would have rebuild something to prove a point!

IMHO, skip the usual Empire state building. the queuing is silly. You can save the time and money. Add the saving on a Broadway show (twice as expensive as a Nice London West End show for no better quality). Put the two savings together and go to the South banks of Manhattan for an helicopter tour. On a clear day this is a unique experience. I loved it.
As an interesting alternative (but even as a complement) the boat tour of the Mahattan island (including Statue of Liberty) is great.

I wish you a very good experience

Note : don't even think bike in NYC !

Had planned on the Brooklyn Bridge, USS Intrepid, Staten Island, Rockafella, Empire etc etc
No biking though going to try get a dealer t-shirt from triumph in NYC. No Yamaha dealer that I can find, plus dont think they would do the t-shirt thing.

Some good suggestions above.

We went on the Staten Island Ferry which was good and then walked back to the Central Park area -It was a long walk, but we saw a lot.
In fact, walking around and just browsing is one of the best things to do.

The Guggenheim Museum is good to visit, although the building itself is better than many of the exhibits.

If you like running, go for a run around Central Park.

...do I assume that you've never been to Argentina?

Metropolitan museum is exceptional. You know the place where they filmed "Night in a museum". I didn t want to get out of it.

However, Guggenheim is not a guaranteed good experience. I swear that I felt physically sick with the photographs exhibited by a lesbian intending to make you feel bad about your standard view of the family.

One more advice : take public transportation from the airport to the Manhatan. It is reasonably price and gives you first experience of the "locals" while you stare ahead for your first sight of Manhattan!!!

Enjoy

There's an Aircraft Carrier Museum to visit too. Concorde is on a barge next to it, Cant remember where, taxi took me there.

b&h photo if you want some really good deal on professional video, photo or sound equipment, the store is awesome!

For pizzas, hot dogs, hamburgers, italian food, chinese food, etc, etc ... nothing beat NYC

If you like jazz music, no better place in the world! start with "the blue note"...

San Diego is kinda boring, although great weather and easy trip to Mexico if you like risking your life. For the west coast, come to San Fransisco instead - gorgeous city and a ton of great riding nearby if you have time for it. Plus, you can catch a race at Laguna Seca if you time it right.

If you go to Boston, consider mid-late October as that's best guess when leaves are at peak color - that's really spectacular to see, although you'd have to get out of the city to really take it in.

My 2 cents.

A well -travelled friend says it is the best city he's been to.

I went there October-December a few years ago. It started off very wet and then SNOWED. Vermont was fantastic.
