Packed the fags in ten years ago 15th dec 1999. was best thing ever done.

had stopped about five times before, but made my mind up that I'd stop before

I was thirty, ( started when I was only 11 )..

It's no the money it's your health thats getting a beating.

Theres no way I could have a motorcycle if I was still a smoker spending

all our cash on fags.

zyban can be bought for around 93p a tab upto £2 a tab depending on strength and manufacturer atm. But I've just noticed it is also listed as an anti-depressent.

I was prescribed a similar product to Zyban a few years ago to help me quit. It was from the same family of anti-depressants & worked the same way. The effect on me was quite unpleasant, I ended up writing off a car at 40kph because the pills put me in lala land, my one & only accident. My craving for ciggies certainly dropped along with my cravings for everything else. I know these drugs effect everybody differently, in my case I can honestly say I have never been so depressed. I chucked them away after 2 weeks. I would recommend caution with them.
I'm currently cutting back on my tabs (again) & doing pretty good. The toll on my health & wallet is giving me a lot more resolve. My last attempt to quit was drastic & really back fired, I took a job on a deep sea trawler down in the guts of the Southern Ocean, the bloody ship had a pallet of duty free tabs which only cost pennies & almost everybody smoked liked an old lum, their was nothing else to do in your down time.

I got the name wrong. After a bit of sniggering from the district nurse she turns up with a pack of "Tampax" stating " sticking these in your mouth should ease the cravings. Day three now!

Packed in for a couple of years and started again like flicking a switch, I've done this a couple of times too.

Been stopped a long time now BUT STILL crave the hit - just add beer to increase the desire.

Got a handle on the temper thing quite quickly though.

One day at a time and sometimes one craving at a time - worth it in the end????

For what it's worth I started smoking at 12 years of age. I tried to stop nearly every day from the age of about 21. I stopped for 1 year but still wanted to smoke, stopped for 3 years and always wanted to smoke and always went back on them. Eventually I spent 6 months really focusing on the death I would have if I did not stop and then one day I stopped. I had been smoking 15-20 / day. I kept thinking about cancer and dying a suffocating death and the desire went away. After 6 weeks the physical desire is gone so once you reach that be assured you can now PHYSICALLY stop. I have been off them for 10 years and can definitly say I will never smoke. I have no desire and never will - i hate the smell of them and the companies who make them but I have no problem with anyone smoking around me. I sat with my dad as he took his last breath after suffering for 6 months with lung cancer. I watched him fade from a tall man of presence to a small crippled old man in that time.He would have lived to see his grand-daughter grow up but missed it all for cigarettes. For what it's worth think about this when you are tempted and good luck...I still miss him.

smoked for 23, have given up for about 16, without doubt its the best thing you can do. Trouble is it takes about 12 months to really feel the full benefit.
Wish there was some easy bit of advice but there isnt. The closest i can come is to suggest you take up roll yer owns, it seems easier to give up from them.
Going to the pub makes it so much harder, almost impossible.
The tobacco companies are truly evil for what they do.

Nope I smoked them for 17yrs and didn't make it easier to give up!!

Get yourself hypnotised, cost me £70 but I did 6 yrs ago and haven't fancied one since [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/good.gif[/img]

I swapped from tailors to rollies when I started driving a lot more - as it wasn't so easy to have a fag when you have to roll while driving.

That said, I can now drive & roll - not about to attempt to try ride & roll tho!

I've tried a couple of times to give up, and failed badly.

A friend told me that you will get to a point where you are ready to quit, and thats the time to try. Doing it because you think you should will normally result in a re-lapse.

My farther in law gave up 10+ years ago, and has said that you never really loose the craving, just the the amount of time in between each craving extends...hours, days, weeks, years. He still sneeks out when I'm having a smoke on the patio to get a "free hit", but he'll never go back now.

Day four wifes in the kitchen baking more cake as were running out. Appetite has gone crazy but cake tastes real nice.

im into day 9 now, still trying to find things to do with my hands but not been tempted.

however i have noticed the tablets seem to be making me a tad sleepy !
