Giving Up Smoking
Packed in two days ago. Carbon monoxide down to 2%. Feel like Happy days.
Keep goin matey. I know a few other Carpedians who gave up recently and are doin well.
Doin valve clearances? Use dappers valve shim exchange program and the job will be carroty - Free (other than you postin me yer shims) for sporting members.
Good luck Danny, I gave up on the 10th March, going well so far. Not using patches, pills or anything other than will power. I'd cut down to < 10 a day a year before, and that seems to have made it easier. Plus I keep telling myself how much money I'm saving

If a strange looking truck driver honks at you & gives you the thumbs up, its could be me  :good:
It was Hartsides visit that gave me the idea. If he can do it then so can I.
6 weeks since the day I quit. Have had some weak moments and made some cigarettes. Most of the time going well. The 1-st week was the hardest. Half the money that used to be spent on cigarettes, goes on candy and sweets now. Stepping on the scales doesn't seem like a good idea anymore.

well done lads, well done.
It can be a battle, but throw your face into some cake whenever the cravings rise
I need a sig. indeed with plenty of frickin polish
How hard can it be? Torture, it must be easier to give up breathing

I've tried many times but I've always caved in, and ended up smoking MORE.

Helpful: Stick the money you save to one side, it'll soon add up so you can use it to buy something nice (I once bought myself a car stereo this way, and immediately started smoking again )

Not helpful: After about 6 months what happens is I think it'll be ok to have just one, just to be social down the pub like. Then two, then... oh, no-one's got any fags, I'll just buy a packet and... Be an idiot and start smoking again.

Patches? Pah, may as well stick a plaster on your arm. Gum? Gave me lock jaw. I did go on Zyban once and that seemed to make things easier, shame they don't do it on their health service here (something like 170 quid for 30 pills last time I looked)

Good luck people, all I can say is you have more will power than I have
3VD006578 - it's alive!!
I remember the doctor on the This Morning programme using zyban to give up.
He was fine with it and gave up. But shortly after there was a bit of contreversy with it, cannot remember what now.
and then a year or so later I think he died didn't he?
... It wasn't related to zyban Fwiw.

zyban can be bought for around 93p a tab upto £2 a tab depending on strength and manufacturer atm. But I've just noticed it is also listed as an anti-depressent.
Much research is needed if you are going the Zyban route. Personally, I wouldn't try it.

I need a sig. indeed with plenty of frickin polish

I think I'd try one o them plastic fake ciggydoodaahs, summat to occupy my hands/gob when I'd normally be smoking.

I stopped for 6 days once, fortunately the antibiotics cleared my chest infection pretty quickly so I was soon puffing away again

Funny, but during that time I never even craved for a ciggy

Everybody at work bar me and one other has quit .......managed a year before so i know it can be done, last attempt was 2 years ago when i bought electronic cigarettes, yes i thought, still get the nico fix without all the other crap, they are a good alternative the only problem was i kept OD on the nicotine which just made me feel ill all the time, so they now sit redundant on a shelf

I think we all know it's time to quit and with redunduncies looming at the wifes work, if she is picked they have to go, what a sad reason to quit.
Mmmmm must give this some more serious thought.

It is an antidepressant - <!--QuoteBegin-"Wiki"+-->QUOTE("Wiki")<!--QuoteEBegin-->Initially researched and marketed as an antidepressant, bupropion was subsequently found to be effective as a smoking cessation aid.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

There was no fuzzy cloud feeling or anything, and they weren't like Prozac either - "I'm still depressed but I don't care".

93p a pop huh? Off to do some research...

I switched from ciggys straight to an electric ciggy, these things are basically atomizers, when you inhale on it you pull the atomized air through a replaceable mouth piece that has a nicotine impregnated sponge inside. The strength of the nicotine varies from something like 20mg to 0 so you can ween yourself off the nicotine completely. The best thing is you feel as though you are smoking as there is water vapor so when you exhale you get what looks like smoke. Come in different flavors also, I liked the cherry ones.

However my rechargeable battery broke and I went straight back to the rollies. I have got 2 replacement batteries now and I'm working towards giving it another go.

I did stop for over 3 months until the failure, it's the only way I will attempt it again as I still went for a smoke with my friends at work during breaks etc and I didn't crave normal smokes.

Worth a look here Linky Dink

Oh and good luck all of you.

23 years smoking, finished on 30 a day.

1 hour hypnosis

Never touched one since, 5 years next week!

Hypnosis not the absolute cure but it drew a line for me and I have not crossed it since.

Remember, your mood swings and bad temper are everyone else's problem, not yours, they just need to back off for a while.

Oh, and a few tree roots to dig up when it gets really bad are an advantage.

Lots more advice but I get REALLY boring.

Good luck guys, 48 hours and most of the crap is out of your system, the rest is all in the mind!

Barn.
It went E,S,E,S,A
I'm off them 4 years past in January. The best thing I ever did and saving a fortune.
One thing I would say is you really need to want to give up. I reckon if you don't truly want to give up you will have a hard time doing so.
I tried 5 times before and every time I failed I ended up smoking more than before and with more intensity. I found that once I got past the 3 month mark it got much easier and I used the max strength nicotine patches.

Is it easy? Hell no
Can you do it? Of course you can

Good luck.

I gave up about 3 weeks ago, but after 2 days of hell started having a rollie in the morning, just after breakfast.

So now I need to stop my 1 a day... Sounds far easier than it is!

My wife can go weeks with out a ciggy and then just have one on the spur of the moment. I think that may be the road to ruin for me so sticking to total abstinance for as long as I can.
Bah........... giving up is easy

I've done it loads of times
