Ktm 950 Sm (supermoto)
I was out on a ride earlier. One of the blokes had a BMW K1200r (or maybe a 1300) and one of the chaps had a KTM 950SM Supermoto. The KTM was what I'd like my TDM to be. The noise was superb!

I think I might have discovered what would be my ideal bike, albeit with fairly short service intervals.

I'll add it to my wish-list....

ps. The TDM did hold its own
Mcbodge, you think the same way as me. i love the thought of the KTM's. Last time I was home 4 guys came past on new KTM's as I was parked up stretching my legs near Kielder. One of them gave me a wee wave & hoisted a stunning wheelie, he was still on the back wheel as he disappeared round the corner, obviously very capable bikes. My problem with them is comfort & fuel range. I'm not a hard rider & enjoy doing big miles when the urge takes me, the supermoto's don't tick the mileage box but have a huge grin factor. I'm trying to get a test ride on an SMT, might be quite comfortable but the fuel range is still pants. I just need more money & a bigger garage. Apparently the 690 is pick of the bunch.....

Yes, apparently the 950SM does like to wheelie, but the seat is better than the journalists suggest. Bike magazine did an 'Around Britain' ride on an SMT. Not sure about tank range though.

I'd heard the same thing about the 690 and going back to the 'having sufficient power' issue, I suspect that it might be enough for most situations. The 690R is on the wish list. The same cash issues and garage limitations prevent me getting one. Having a test-ride would be a bad thing!

I know, but on the plus side I'm skint, I would have to pinch it.

A local fella rides one of these, never had a close look at it but it sounds like he rippped a 50mm cannon of a tank and used it for his 'zorst.
I bumped into him one day while walking the dog, he was grean laning a stroker with a couple of mates. His description of the KTM ride was
"imagine a wild horse on steroids"
I need a sig. indeed with plenty of frickin polish

Sorry I'm gonna get banned for spouting this, and I don't even have one yet, but if you want similar thrills but practicality (of sorts) and 150 mile tank range then look no further than the Triumph Street Triple R.

Having said that when I was in the KTM Centre (Hemel Hempstead) last weekend they had a deal on new 990 Superduke of £7495 OTR, also pretty tempting.

A mate (lucky b&stard) has a 690 SMC and they are cracking, but very much Sunday blast machines and no range to speak of.
