Tyre Change (tubed)
A few munts ago oi did my first tyre change on Dave's boike (rear of DRZ) was a pain in the rissole but at no point did I think it would beat me.

So new tyres arrive and I have a spring in my step.

Last time it probably took me an hour to suss out a good way to remove the old tyre! The new tyre just plopped on (10mins ish).

So this time the old tyre took probably 10mins to remove. Woohoo think oi.....just plop the new one on.......2 hours later I have finally admitted defeat. Cannot even get the ONE side of the new tyre on.

The news tyres seem a bit stiffer almost tubeless loike but the website I got em from stated they were TT(tubed tyres) and the burd on the phone confirmed this.

I know the opposite side of the tyre need to sit deep in the centre of the wheel to give you every opportunity to get the udder end to seat but really. Maybe one fifth of the tyre is on and not another mm will budge.

I know about sticking the tyre in the sun (but there aint any) and soap, talc or whatever but has anyone got any leverage tips as this is WAR!

I know it might sound stupid, but did you check that they sent you the correct size?
Yeah they have the correct size written on the side. I compared the old and new resting on the rim and it is obvious that the new one is a snugger fit....but then 2hours of cursing told me that much already.

Can also feel that the sides of new tyre feel stiffer and thicker.

You should be able to get the first side on without any levers at all! Use plenty of lube (you can always wipe it off after) on both the wheel rim and the INSIDE and outside edges of the tyre bead. Working away from yourself, place the bead in the centre "well" of the rim and you should be able to just lean on it a little to push it over the rim. Repeat the process for the 2nd bead, but you will probably have to use levers and/or a rubber mallet type thingy to coax the tyre on. Obviously, put the tube in before fitting the second side of the tyre and be careful not to pinch the tube.

When fitting the 2nd side, I find it helpful sometimes to use a couple of small pieces (1/2"-3/4" thick) of wood/plastic between the rim and tyre to hold the bead down in the centre well whilst working.
Yup thats what the last wan did trev. No need for lube or oubt just plopped on. This tyre, though the same size is just nowhere near. Lubing it would just ghive me a slippery tyre that dont fit!

Last time I put the tube in the tyre then fitted the whole kaboodle to the rim, makes it less fiddly trying to shove the tube in. Wondered if this might be the prob so tried without tube....nope still not even close!

bottoms.

That's wierd! Have you measured the inside diameter of the tyres? More than a few mm difference and it definitely won't fit.

I feel a challenge for the local tyre dealer coming on!
Its not going well my reply has disappeared.........as I was saying.....

Rested both old and new on the rim. Looked like there was a diff in internal diam but not measured yet as need some time away from the tyre at the mo.

Any way if I can tell if it is meant for tubes or tubeless? Would this make a difference? The front has "Tubeless" written on it Heidenau K60 and the rear dont although its also a Heidenau K60!

Its not going to a tyre fitter as if I cant put it on (and more importantly tek it off) then it aint going to be mush use to me.

I was thinking more like they might be able to point you in the right direction - that's really strange that it won't go on, especially as you've done them before, so it's not like you don't know what you're doing.

I wouldnt go THAT far.....but this was a NO WAY rather than a struggle.

I am beginning to think that they have sent me a tubeless rear tyre instead of the tubed one. It also has RF (reinforced) written on it.

Maybe Masterbrewer could throw you some possibles ?

I wudda thought it'd be reinforced with it needing a tube, but I know less than you 'bout tyres so just ignore me
Pay some one ..................... more time for this

What are all the markings on the side of each tyre?

Called up vendoorrrs this mornin.

Hello can you tell me how I identify this as the tubed or tubeless tyre please.

Ermm err....can you take it to a tyre place and ask.

Well yes I could but I have to work and the tyre place is a 40mile round trip and they might not appreciate someone waving a brand new tyre I didnt buy from them in their faces. It would be easier if you could tell me the process you use to either pick up a tubed or tubeless tyre from the shelf.

Ermm err...we will get back to you.

I have the same problem fitting the trelleborg swedish army special tyres on my off-roader, specially the rear.
I wait for a nice sunny day and leave the tyre in the sun for half an hour+ till it softens a little

Being a bit calmer now I applied some logic. Front old tyre "tubed type", Front new tyre "tubed type", Rear old tyre "tubed type", Rear new tyre....nothing.

Wrong tyre me thinks!
