I don't know. They look good and are probably quite grunty and a laugh on the back roads, but possibly a bit short of 'go' for the open road.

I had a Suzuki 650 Freewind single for a few years and thought it was a really good bike, very economical, comfortable and handled much better than you'd expect. It's only real downfall was lack of power when overtaking but it would happily cruise at 75-80 mph. However, times they are a changing, what with the reduction of speed limits everywhere and the price of fuel, smaller capacity might just be the way to go?
Now on 9er number 2 .....

Or possibly and Aprilia Strada, it's got the same 660 Yamaha engine and looks a decent bit of kit though seat height a bit to low for my 6' 2" frame.
'73 Honda CB500 Four, Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and Triumph Tiger Sport 660.
read a few more articles on it and fuel consumtion may be an issue as you will have to rev the bollocks off it when going gets a little faster,if I could get 65mpg from one at 65-70 I would be happy only got 29'' inside leg so struggle with anything to tall! but will have a look at aprillia just parts supply might put me off.
I had one as a courtesy bike a couple of times when the TDM was in for maintenance. They're great fun, very light to steer and really encourage a more 'spirited' riding style on the twisty back roads. Luggage options are very limited though and with the small tank and limited power and protection it is not really a long distance runner.

The 660 mono does offer enough power for comfortable A-road and (legal speed) highway riding. Even my current Tenere allows that and it responds to the throttle a bit more sedate as the MT03. The MT03 responds to the throttle quite nervously, so you only start to notice the low power at about 110-120kph.

In many ways it would suit the sort of riding I like. I prefer exploring undulating back roads to hooning along straight A roads.

...but it's nice to be able to give it some gas to pass things and when you only have one bike it's better to have more of an all-rounder.

If I had more space and cash I'd have a big tourer, a sports/muscle bike and something like a

or more realistically, an MT-03
Had a look today and sprilia strada's 08 bike new no miles at £3899 very tempted but does depend if I could sell my tdm, only reason I am selling is that once a bike gets to around 30k I sell while I can, went and cleaned my bike today and do wonder why I want to sell it!

Have you ridden the Strada as I'd be interested in your views.

I'm currently looking at a DRZ400 as a 2nd bike, though not yet ridden one, but the Strada was another I thought of but excluded as it's heavier and less different from the TDM so perhaps not right for a 2nd bike.

I uncovered a Visordown comparison review that wasn't overly complimentary about the Strada, but I know never to believe everything you read and they were assessing it as a street supermoto, which isn't really it's bag I reckon.

I like the Strada better than the Yam, more stylish and of course still the same engine so spares won't be a problem. The price is very good although the Aprillia maydepreciate a bit quicker than the Yam?

I actually think the Yam looks better than this
[Image: Aprilia%20Pegaso%20Strada%2005.jpg]
My opinion on looks is I love the wheels,brakes,speedo/dash and tank cuby hole on the aprilia the rest I think the Yam is better but not £1000 better.
Obviously looks are personal but I don't actually dislike the MT03, just prefer the Strada

Looks are everything - my prime criteria.

Thats why I bought my TDM in 2003 - then painted it YELLOW

Thats why I just bought a Tenere (without a test ride) - hope I have done the right thing. Wondering how I am going to get the thing home tomorrow. I will probably ride it - how can you have a new toy and not use it?

If I drop it - then I will have an excuse to paint it YELLOW.
XT1200Z - Big and bouncy

GTR1400 - Chaufer the wife.

XT660Z - Fun and commute.

TDM900 - Yellow.

So have you got rid of the 9er Mark or is the Tenere just an addition to the collection?

I am keeping the 9er.

However - it is in for a replacement stator - being re-wound. Determined to get it to 100K. (4k to go). Not sure what to do after that. I am emotionally attached to it now. Can't imagine selling it. Will run it till something serious goes wrong then use it to learn how it all fits together. Sell bits to other 9er owners that will cherrish and love them.

I have planned a trip to Spain in April - so I thought a new bike would be more reliable.

I want another 9er, but because that is the only bike I ever owned, I thought I would regret not trying the Tenere - I always stood and admired them every time I was in the shop.

If a strange looking truck driver honks at you & gives you the thumbs up, its could be me  :good:
I think the new Tenere is a great all rounder and the 660 engine is bulletproof and economical but it's got looks you either love or hate. I know though that many people feel like that about the 9er but once you ride it you .... well you know the rest. Will be interested to hear how you get on with the Tenere on a long trip, enjoy and ride safely.

I actually do also like the looks of both of them. But then again I like things that look a bit quirky...

I took mine on trips to Normandy and the Vosges last year and was quite impressed with it. I expected it to fair a bit worse. Riding position, seat, economy are all on par with the TDM. You do have to time your overtakes on highways a bit more carefully. But otherwise I like it just as much as my old 900.
