About 23 years since I was last there, twice in a year, the TT in June and the Manx Rally (cages) in September. No encounters in bus shelters though

The Isle of Man has been my main holiday destination for 25 years now. For the last three years I've been there for both the TT and the MGP, as I will be next year.

Hi Stu,
TonyD has suggested the 4th to 10th July as the potential date. Have you been there around that time of year ? Any reason why it might not be good etc.
The following week would be better - the Southern 100 road races are on that week in Castletown - it's a cracking road race to watch - really close to the action

Just asking..

that sounds a useful idea Alan and it will add an extra dimension to the week without denying access to the TT course due to road closures

I don't know if steam packet put prices up for S100 races but assume not

I think there is a car rally on 9/10th as well which may be of interest

is it worth having a brain-storm of ideas for the week - accommodation, activities, visits etc ?

roll on!

Practice week for the TT or MGP may tick a few boxes. As practice sessions only take place in the evening, it leaves the days free and the roads are open. Also, there are no restrictions on the free camp site I use. Many ferry sailings at the MGP are half the top rates, and are similar to the Southern 100 prices. Classic bikes feature strongly during the MGP festival, whereas they've been dropped from the S100 program, next year.

"minds are made up" as follows:

- decision is made, after a poll, that the destiantion is IoM for 2010 (partly because RTT 2011 is to be a big expensive event )
- discussion now is the detail of the date (either first or second week in July)

My view:

- I tend to agree with DandyW that opportunity to see Southern 100 races is worth it (second week)
- we could also take in the car rally as well on 9/10th

IoM is the only place in Europe with a pro-motorcycle culture and limit-free roads, and in a beautiful setting, it is the perfect location for a bike group

roll on!
