A bit fanny
My MkII fan seems to be stuck on. It's hot here at the moment but not so hot, surely, that the fan should come on with the ignition before the bike has been started. Is this a common failure?

I have tried searching the forum on 'fan' but it won't allow words of less than 4 letters. Tried 'fanny' too. No luck.
Most likely yer fan switch in the thermostat is stuck Dave....if you unplug the lille spade terminal from the top of the fan switch it will cease to be on all the time....thats the good news...the bad news is it'll be off all the time!

As a temp solution, you could add in a switch to bypass the fan swtich...thats the good news....the bad news is you may need to remove fairing/tank/air box just to get to the top of the thermostat!

After doing this a few times, I decided to extend the wiring so that the entire thermostat housing can be dropped and removed...rather than farting around removing everything.

If you need parts I may be able to help as I had a spare thermostat around somewhere....thats the good news....the bad news is I'd have to find the burger!

Cheers

Doin valve clearances? Use dappers valve shim exchange program and the job will be carroty - Free (other than you postin me yer shims) for sporting members.
Hmm, thanks for that. I was hoping something (other than Jeremy Clarkson) just needed hitting with a hammer.

I'll take the 'always on' option for now. It's so hot here now that the fan would rarely be off, anyway. I leave for the UK this week and don't return till late Aug, at which time I will, no doubt, be completely surprised to find the fan stays on all the time.
Okay, the bike had other ideas and went for the NEVER ON option. Did 300 miles today, mostly at 90-95 so fan not a problem. Then got into Bangkok at the hottest part of the day...

Temp guage did a bit of yoga but did not go too mad. Only have to get the bike across town, on Saturday, then she is in storage till August.

Daps, if you do find the t-stat, that would be great.
Okey dokey, will have a lookee likeee......I prolly have just the fan switch on its own somewhere. Its possible you just have a dicky bit of wiring somewhere. If you bypass the fan swtich it should go back to being permanently on...that'll also give ya a clue as to if its dodgy wiring or sticky switch!

Is now intermittent. Do not fancy going in more than once so will have the spares off you if poss then, hopefully, get it sorted in one go.

Ta,
Dave
