Heinz Garlike's Great Business Plan!
This started last summer - in June - when I went to the local HG to get some waterproof summer gloves. Only to be told they hadn't had their summer stock in yet Good planning there then.

Fast forward to this March. I wanted a mirror for the XS650. Spotted one in the catalogue. Rang them Friday afternoon. "I'll just check....Yep got one in". Turn up Saturday morning. "No haven't got one of those...who did you speak to?" Upshot is they'll ring me when their delivery comes in in the week and the mirror will be in that. No call. Ring them two weeks later. "We've had a container in this week and mirror should be with us in a week. Never did get a call and went elsewhere.

Saturday just gone went over to the shop as I fancied a pair of the Draggin Jeans for on the XS. £90 in the new catalogue, plus a few quid for the armour. It started badly when I got told they had very few pairs in - like about three. But one was in my size. But £125.95. Me - So that includes armour? HG - No. Me - But they're £90 in the catalogue. HG - These are new ones with better Kevlar. Me - So you don't do the £90 ones anymore? HG - No. Me - So, with armour we're talking around £150! We're into leather and Goretex prices. Walked away.

Now I like my HG outfit but what hope is there for a shop that hasn't any summer gloves in summer, doesn't do customer service, and has no stocks of stuff for hot days approaching the summer season and wants 25% more for them than in the new catalogue.

Bloody hopeless. Manchester HG take a bow.

You got a point there, Slarty.
I use the HG in Lincoln, & it always used to be full of well priced kit, all compatible with their other kit - so if I bought leather or fabric separates, I could always mix & match according to the weather/season.

These days, it's all Arlen Ness, Joe Rocket, or other overpriced 'fashion' stuff - with boots & gloves going the same way
It's as if they haven't realised none of us are so flush these days & want BETTER value, not the other way round.
If they carry on like this & ignore the grassroots bikers, they are in for trouble.

Still - It's the BMF show on 16th May, so there should be some cheap summer gloves there - anyone going ?

Classic bait and switch. Try writing to someone further up the food chain. Mentioning trading standards and "bait and switch" will get their attention and you a reply.
Doin valve clearances? Use dappers valve shim exchange program and the job will be carroty - Free (other than you postin me yer shims) for sporting members.

Sunday afternoon def best for bargins, just got to be there when they drop the prices. Only thing is everyone else has had pick of stuff by then.

Been buying my kit from HG there for a good few years and only had one really dodgy item, jacket with poor stitching which would fall apart if you went down the road, and that was early on, on cost 25 sqids so not to unhappy. Misses got full 2 piece ladys leathers for £45, just had to replace 1 zip on cuff ( ).

Most kit has ticket on saying fault, just inspect carefully.

My partner was looking for a tank bag for her bike, having looked in several shops popped into HG in Southampton. Having looked at every tank bag at least a dozen times she settled on a tuareg bag at £49.99.
At the till she was told that that was last years price and they were now £63.99 and they would not budge. They not only lost that sale but will not be seeing either of us again.

If you want draggin jeans try this lot www.getgeared.co.uk They have also got a shop in Leatherhead, Surrey and sell a large range of bike gear, much of which seems to be German is good quality and well priced. Although they don't actually sell draggin, they do sell a German equivalent (sorry can't remember name) which are a bit cheaper but look just as good. They also have inner pockets on the knees for fitting protectors which I don't think draggin have?
Now on 9er number 2 .....
When it comes to clothing past experience has taught me to try it on before buying. And a right phaff with an internet supplier who at first refused an exchange has put me right off mail order - hence going to HG.

There's a local independent called On Yer Bike which I'm going to try. They might not have the fancy poloshirts but I do get the impression they ride bikes as opposed to posing on a bling sprinkled Duke Monster a handful of times a year.

I might just fire an email at the HG fuhrer bunker just to stir the pot - as far as I can see Draggin will still sell you the cheaper jeans.

Um, is it not the law that the price marked on an article is the price, period?
It's not your fault that they were too slack to change/update the marked price.

Trouble is, they COULD just refuse to serve you. But like you said - no sales in the end.

It's not the law... taken from a random consumer site...
<!--quoteo-->QUOTE<!--quotec-->The Shop Has to Sell at the Displayed Price
This is another common consumer misconception. If you see an item priced at what you think is an absolute bargain – beware. If a shop misprices an item, and for example misses a zero from the displayed price, you might think that you can walk up to the till and insist that you’re allowed to take the goods away at the displayed price. This is actually wrong. It comes down to basic contract law, and a price label on goods is what’s called, 'an invitation to treat' – that is, an invitation for you as a consumer to make the seller an offer to buy those goods.

You make the offer of the price stated on the goods – at this point if the seller realises that there has been an error, they can refuse to sell you the goods and tell you that they will sell them to you at the correct price. You cannot insist that they sell the item to you for the stated price – in fact you can’t actually insist that they sell the goods to you at all.

There may be an exception to this rule but it’s covered by criminal legislation - The Control of Misleading Advertisements Regulations. This means that although you can’t insist on a shop selling you something at an advertised price, if they have specifically advertised an item at one price but charge another price for it, and if they continue to do so after you have pointed out their error, they are committing an offence. If you suspect that a shop is deliberately trying to mislead customers, you should notify your local Trading Standards team.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

but having said that, it is a COMMON MISCONCEPTION and the likelyhood is that the shop assistant will agree with you. And chancing your arm by mis-quoting consumer law is fair game in my book.
Speaking from experience, if the shop assistant cannot get hold of the manager they will generally bow to your demands.
Places like Tesco know the law all too well, but if you kick up a fuss and scream false advertising in front of other customers , they will give you the lower priced offer.
I've lost count of the times I do this at superstores. A Tesco manager tried to bar me from the store once, but because of their open door policy, it would have been illegal to do so. They would have to get a court order to stop me entering their stores. Of course on those occasions I tend to shop elsewhere for a while , Morrisons have a lot of old prices up for stock as well......
I need a sig. indeed with plenty of frickin polish
You are quite right under the law of contract a shop is making an offer and the customer accepts that offer or not. Once accepted there is a contract in law.

Most reputable shops understand that and will accept the cost of their mistakes. The guys running the HG shops are sometimes not professional retailers and do not understand these basics.
Given a refusal who is going to spend time and money taking legal action? Your only real option is to shop elsewhere and let others know of you poor experience.

"bait and switch", advertising an item that you do not have to sell and then offering an alternative at an increased price is actually FRAUD. From the information provided here it is quite possible that both Slarty and Dicky have been baited. With Dicky they were too lazy to even switch the product, just the price. In the case of the southampton branch they seem to get a change of management about once a year and unfortunately the last 2 would probably fall into the incapable/sloppy catagory. My next nearest branch is Portsmouth seems to have a reasonable team at the mo and will do my xmas shopping there. (;-
