I managed to get the fuel tank changed yesterday but that wasn't just a straightforward job, getting the fuel pump out requires bending of a piece of plastic that turns out to be what the float arm sits on, there is no way it will come out without force which carries a lot of anxiety, especially as a new pump is listed at nearly £1000Â
(super gluing a broken item that sits in petrol is not an option),
the hole in the tank that the fuel pump fits into has a turned under edge to it to give extra strength but the under edge is 'unfinished' and is sharp on the fingers, this means it 'cuts' into the piece of plastic that needs to be bent to get it out, which in turn makes it harder to remove because it tries to shave the plastic,
to help with possible removing in the future I have sanded the under edge of the hole smooth so the piece of plastic will slide past it with a bit less force, possibly :dunno: ,
I didn't totally finish reassembly yesterday just in case there is a fuel leak, but talking to my son he says he fitted a brand new seal when he had it so hopefully it will be ok, he was also the one who advised me the pump has to be given some force to get it out, when I originally painted it for myself 20+ years ago I left the pump in the tank and masked over it,
if the weather is ok'ish today I should finish it, I have to say though that I am pleased with how it's turning outÂ
